BREAKING: Schalke confirm Leon Goretzka To Join Bayern Munich In The Summer

BREAKING: Bayern Munich agree to sign Leon Goretzka from Schalke and he will join them in the summer

Bayern Munich have secured the signing of highly prized Germany international midfielder Leon Goretzka from Bundesliga rivals Schalke.

The 22-year-old, whose contract with the Royal Blues is set to expire at the end of the current season, he has signed a deal reigning Bundesliga champions.the length of which is yet to be disclosed by either club.

Goretzka rose through the ranks at VfL Bochum before joining Schalke at the age of 18 in summer 2013. He has scored 14 goals in 101 Bundesliga appearances for the club, and has since developed into one of the most high-rated young players in Europe, as well as becoming a full Germany international and helping Joachim Löw's side win the 2017 Confederations Cup in Russia.

Leon Goretzka has opted to join Bayern Munich, Schalke sporting director Christian Heidel has confirmed.

"Leon Goretzka informed us at the beginning of this week that he wishes to leave the club to join Bayern Munich," he said.

"We regret that. Yesterday Karl-Heinz Rummenigge informed us that Leon had his medical. We lose a very good player.

"He signed at Bayern a contract starting from 1. July 2018. We did everything to keep Leon at Schalke. Last summer there was no agreement with him and his agent. He wanted more time to see the sportical development.

"We can deal with this situation, it was not a total surprise. We are prepared."

Robben Not Concern on Bayern Future

The 33-year-old winger has reached the final six months of his current deal at the Allianz Arena and is attracting interest from other clubs, according to his father.

Injuries limited Robben to just 18 appearances across all competitions for the Bavarian giants during the first half of the season, although he started the first game of 2018 as Jupp Heynckes' side ran out 3-1 victors against Bayer Leverkusen on Friday.

Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge stated in December that negotiations were planned with the Dutch ace and Franck Ribery, who will also be out of contract in the off-season.

"There have been no talks with the club yet. But I am relaxed about it," Robben told Kicker.

"The most important thing is to stay healthy, focus on the sporting situation and play my games."

His dad, Hans Robben, added: "We're calmly waiting for the situation to develop. Bayern will come to us sooner or later, there is no deadline.

"Still we wish to have clarity in the near future. There are some requests for Arjen."

I Have My Future With Bayern - Rodriguez

The Colombian striker joined the Bundesliga giants on a two-year long deal in July 2017 having fallen out of favour at Real.

He made 22 La Liga appearances, scoring eight goals, having struggled with calf and foot injuries, last season, and has already played 13 league games for Bayern this term, netting three times.

Having found his confidence restored, the former Manchester United man he still respects Zidane but that he is more than happy in Germany.

Rodriguez told El Chiringuito de Jugones: "[Zidane is] still my idol. He was a top player with a lot of quality and I admire those who play good football.

"I don't know whether I can say I had a closeness with Zidane but each coach has their preferences. I can't say whether he was unfair with me but there is no point thinking about that any more.

"The way I left was sad as [playing for Madrid] was a dream for me but football is like that."

He added: "I cannot accept that I trained badly. I trained a lot, twice as much.

"I have a very clear conscience because I know that I trained well and always tried to give my all when I played.

"It was sad for me when I left Real. It was always a dream of mine to wear the white shirt - but football's like that sometimes. Right now, I'm only thinking about Bayern. I'm feeling good, which I think you can see in my performances on the pitch. I want to achieve a lot with the club. My future is here."

Rodriguez made a total 111 appearances in all competitions in three seasons with Real, scoring 36 goals and making 41 assists.

And after scoring the third goal in Bayern's 3-1 win at Bayer Leverkusen, head coach Jupp Heynckes said: "I'm really happy with him.

"He's fully integrated and you can see how happy he is here every day in training.

"He realises that he's allowed to make mistakes and that it's not a reflection of his performance if he's taken off. He'll only become more important for us as time goes on."

Still On The Matching Runs

Heynckes took over from Carlo Ancelotti at Die Roten in October and has since led them to 15 wins in 16 games across all competitions, lifting them to top spot in the Bundesliga.

In his previous spell at Bayern Heynckes won the treble, claiming the 2013 UEFA Champions League title, Bundesliga title, and DFB-Pokal.

"We've rarely been able to celebrate Christmas in as relaxed a mood as this year," Rummenigge wrote in his end-of-year letter to club members and fans.

"We can be very satisfied with 2017. Last summer we won a fifth Bundesliga title in a row – that's an historic achievement! Even the so-called golden 70s failed to produce such sheer Bavarian dominance, and our team is well on course to extend this streak.

"We're top of the table at the halfway stage of the season for the seventh time in a row, with an 11-point lead over our rivals. I think that's remarkable! We're also on track in the Champions League and DFB Cup.

"Special thanks go to Jupp Heynckes and his coaching staff. Jupp has made a wonderful comeback. We've won 15 of our 16 matches since he returned, and I'm convinced he'll continue to help the team develop after the winter break, even though the mid-season training period is very short this time.

"And I'd also like to thank Carlo Ancelotti, who led us to the aforementioned fifth league title last summer."

James Rodriguez Happy At Bayern

After struggling to establish himself with Spanish giant Real Madrid, 26-year-old James Rodriguez made the temporary switch to the Allianz Arena as Bayern's marquee signing.

However, since the return of manager Jupp Heynckes as a replacement for the sacked Carlo Ancelotti, James become a key component in attack for the Bavarian giants.

"I'm very pleased with my first six months," the Colombia international told Sport1. "We can go into the holidays with a good feeling after the last few weeks and we hope to be successful next year as well.

"Bayern are like Real Madrid a club at the highest level. They always want to win titles and are used to always having to win.

"Without question, Bayern are a top club. It's a new life for me, but I've settled well. I'm really happy here."

James has scored twice and registered three assists in seven Bundesliga starts this term.

No Risks And No Rushing as Bayern's Ribery Continues Rehabilitation

France Winger has been on the sidelines for over a month after tearing a knee ligament, but he is keen to retake the field when the time is right

Franck Ribery is taking no risks with his return from injury as he slowly looks to regain full fitness at Bayern Munich.

The Frenchman tore the lateral collateral ligament in his left knee in a 2-2 draw against Hertha Berlin at the start of October, with a lengthy lay-off initially predicted.

But Ribery has made good progress and says he feels "great", even if he is in no rush to get back to full training.

"Obviously I feel great right now, but we have to control my progress and we don't want to take any risks," he told Bayern's official channel.

"I know I'm not at 100 per cent yet, but I can already work hard indoors and outdoors again.

"Next week we're going to conduct further examinations and, if everything is 100 per cent okay, I can slowly begin to train with the ball again."

Ribery has often struggled for fitness in recent seasons, and has not started 20 Bundesliga games since the 2012-13 campaign, when he was influential as Bayern won the treble.

Celtic Bow To German Giant With Heads Up High

The Parkhead side threatened to win a precious point after Callum McGregor’s strike cancelled out Kingsley Coman’s first-half opener following slack defending by Dedryck Boyata. It proved futile, however, when Javi Martinez headed Bayern’s winner with 13 minutes to play.

Celtic can still secure Europa League football after Christmas by avoiding defeat against Anderlecht in their final home game in Group B.

Insisting his team were gutted to lose to a side rejuvented under Jupp Heynckes, Rodgers said: ‘The disappointment in the changing room afterwards leads us to think about how we played tonight. That disappointment shows you how well we played.

‘The level of composure and quality we played with, I was very proud of the team. We caused them lots of problems. Individually, of course, they are world class and you can see that at times.

‘We are disappointed with the goals, you get punished at this level, but overall we looked like a proper team who are developing at this level. Okay, we are disappointed to have lost, but there were so many positives from the game.’

Celtic began the game the stronger team but Boyata was at fault for Bayern’s 22nd-minute opener, the Belgian defender failing to head a long ball from keeper Sven Ulreich, although Parkhead No 1 Craig Gordon also looked suspect after rushing off his line.

‘We’ve got to deal with it,’ added Rodgers, ‘as simple as that. We’ve got good pressure on their goalkeeper, our positioning is good, so we’ve got to head it and defend it.’

Gordon claimed there had been a handball by Coman before the Frenchman slotted the ball into an unguarded net.

‘I haven’t seen it so I wouldn’t be sure if Coman handballed it or not,’ said Rodgers. ‘I’m more disappointed we didn’t deal with the header.

‘Craig was in a good start position and that, at least, gives him a chance. From when the keeper kicks it you want your goalkeeper high and your defence on a good line, so head it.’

Celtic recovered their poise to almost snatch a point after fine performances from Scots trio James Forrest, Kieran Tierney and goalscorer McGregor.

‘Callum can keep the ball,’ said Rodgers. ‘People maybe wonder why he played in front of others, but he is a player who looks after the ball. We still have a bit of work to do on that front at this level, we can give it away loosely at times. But Callum was exceptional.

‘The goal was a wonderful example of two Scottish players. If a European player had done what James did, everyone would be raving about it. It was an incredible skill to make the pass and then Callum does what he does.

‘Kieran Tierney was outstanding against Arjen Robben, Scott Brown was controlling in midfield and Moussa Dembele very good up front to give us that platform. It’s another step for us in terms of being a competitive side and playing proper football at this level.'

Bayern  secured second place in the group. Praising Celtic’s players and fans, however, veteran coach Heynckes said: ‘Celtic played an amazing game today, the fans were a super support, and it was a wonderful experience for us here.’

Leaving Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller in Germany as a precaution ahead of a vital Bundesliga clash with Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, Heynckes said: ‘I changed the team because I had to take into account the players’ conditioning and their training. It was difficult. We knew it would be a difficult game, it would be challenging, but we have to compliment the players tonight.

‘Javi Martinez can be very dangerous when he is in this position, in front of goal. He is also very important in defence for us.’

Bayern Munich Set to Appoint Jupp Heynckes as Interim Manager

Bayern board decided against appointing Thomas Tuchel while Julian Nagelsmann wouldn't be released by Hoffenheim now.

The 72-year-old is set to return for a fourth spell in charge of the German champions, who he led to a Bundesliga, German Cup and Champions League treble in 2013.

Heynckes retired after that successful season but is believed to have agreed a contract until the end of the season.

Bayern sacked Ancelotti as manager following last month's 3-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, with his assistant Willy Sagnol taking charge of the team on an interim basis.

They drew 2-2 at Hertha Berlin last Sunday, leaving them five points behind leaders Borussia Dortmund.

Former Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel had been strongly linked with the Bayern job, as was Hoffenheim's Julian Nagelsmann.

Bayern's next fixture is at home to Freiburg on October 14, and four days later they welcome Celtic to the Allianz Arena in the Champions League.
