Emerson Palmieri On Verge To Join Chelsea for €25m

Emerson Palmieri is on the verge of joining Chelsea for €25m, including bonuses, but getting Edin Dzeko from Roma too will be trickier.

According to multiple sources in Italy, the deal is essentially done for left-back Emerson Palmieri.

He has just recovered from a torn anterior cruciate ligament injury he sustained in May 2017, on the final day of last season, and is eager to complete the transfer.

It’s believed Roma will pocket €20m plus bonuses, that will take it up to around €25m.

As for Dzeko, there are mixed reports on the Bosnian striker’s situation.

Sky Sport Italia claim the former Manchester City man has accepted the idea of a move to Stamford Bridge, whereas Sportitalia and La Gazzetta dello Sport see him as still tentative over the transfer.

Roma want at least €20m plus bonuses for the centre-forward who turns 32 in March.

His first season in Serie A was a massive disappointment, but he was Capocannoniere in his second campaign.

So far this term, Dzeko has scored 12 goals in 26 competitive matches, including two Champions League strikes against Chelsea.

Roma finished above Chelsea in their Champions League group, yet appear to be selling two of their most impressive players to Antonio Conte’s side.

The Giallorossi already have a replacement for Dzeko, as summer signing Patrik Schick has struggled when used in the same line-up as the Bosnian, preferring the same centre-forward role.

Chelsea After Emerson And Dzeko

Emerson, a Brazil-born full-back hoping to play for Italy, would provide back-up and competition for Marcos Alonso, who has been one of Chelsea’s top players at wing-back this season.

"There’s nothing certain yet, we are in a phase of discussion and evaluation," Emerson’s agent, Fernando Garcia of Elenko Sports, told Calciomercato.

"Chelsea are a concrete possibility, absolutely. Now the two clubs are talking, we’ll see if they reach a positive conclusion.

"Obviously, Emerson would love to play in the Premier League and it’d be a dream to work with Conte, as he is among the best coaches in the world."

Dzeko, who spent five seasons in England with Manchester City, scored 29 goals from 37 Serie A appearances last season and has nine from 19 so far this campaign.

The Blues are searching for a striker as Alvaro Morata’s goals have dried up and manager Antonio Conte seems not to trust Michy Batshuayi to deputise.
