Am Not Considering Exit - Isco

Real Madrid star Isco insists he is not looking to leave the Spanish Giant in January despite failing to win into starting eleven under new coach Santiago Solari.

Isco last started a LaLiga match in the 5-1 Clasico humiliation by Barcelona on October 28, Julen Lopetegui's final game in charge.

Since then, Isco has made Madrid's starting XI just twice; the 6-1 Copa del Rey thrashing of minnows Melilla and a shock 3-0 home defeat to CSKA Moscow in the Champions League.

Solari has consistently insisted he has no problem with Isco and continues to rate him highly.

Still, the situation has unsurprisingly led to speculation suggesting the player will seek a move if things do not improve soon, though he has dismissed such reports in the media.

"I'm not thinking about leaving in the winter market," the Spain international told Deportes Cuatro on Sunday.

"I'm very happy, my goal is to win many titles at Real Madrid."

Madrid are next in action against Villarreal on Thursday as LaLiga resumes following a mid-season break.

Solskjaer Does Not Want Lukaku Playing 'Target Man' Role

Manchester United interim Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hinted Romelu Lukaku will not play in a "target man" role as long as he is in charge.

Lukaku endured a difficult first half of the season, struggling for form and fitness after claiming he had been negatively impacted by building up too much muscle during the World Cup.

The 25-year-old striker was granted compassionate leave over Christmas and, as such, is further behind than the majority of his team-mates with respect to match sharpness.

But, in Sunday's 4-1 hammering of Bournemouth, Lukaku came on as a second-half substitute for the impressive Marcus Rashford and scored United's final goal, beating Asmir Begovic after latching on to Paul Pogba's pass.

It was the first time Lukaku had featured since former boss Jose Mourinho with whom the Belgian was said to have a close bond was replaced by Solskjaer, and the new man at the helm is excited by the prospect of the former Everton man being fully fit.

"At times he's a good target man, but if you tell him to be a target man he'll never face the goal," Solskjaer told reporters. "Today [Sunday] he was side-on and he's got the attributes of a top, top striker.

"We need to work on his fitness, but I'm delighted. Even though he was half a yard offside [for his goal], it was a good finish."

Bournemouth lost their goalscorer and defender Nathan Ake to injury late in the game, but manager Eddie Howe was unsure about the severity of the suspected hamstring issue.

"I don't know the latest on Nathan Ake," Howe said. "I'll need to speak to him and the medical team, but it looked like a hamstring complaint."

Van Dijk Lauds Trio, Moh Salah, Firmino And Mane

Anfield star Virgil van Dijk has heaped praises on "scary" attacking trio Moh Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane as the Reds top the Premier League table.

Salah, Firmino and Mane combined to lead high-flying Liverpool to a 5-1 demolition of Arsenal at Anfield on Saturday.

Firmino scored a hat-trick, while Salah and Mane were also on target as centre-back Van Dijk lauded the deadly trio ahead of Thursday's trip to second-placed Manchester City.

"We were almost perfect. We conceded the goal. That was the only thing," said Van Dijk. "But it was an important win. We have finished 2018 now pretty well, and hopefully we can keep that going.

"Confidence is definitely here, but it can change over a couple of games. We won't get carried away. We need to keep doing what we have been doing. There will be setbacks, as there always is in life, but it's how you react and so far we have been doing pretty well.

"At the beginning of the season, people were saying they [the front three] didn't click. They're fantastic. You see in this game as well and they can be undefendable. It's scary — and I'm happy to see that."

Liverpool hold a seven-point lead as they make the trip to reigning champions City, who ended a run of back-to-back defeats against Southampton on Sunday.

Lloris Determines To Win Silverware With Tottenham

Tottenham Marshall and goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is determined to end the club's wait for silverware this season.

Spurs have impressed under manager Mauricio Pochettino, however, Tottenham are without a trophy since winning the 2008 EFL Cup.

Tottenham are third in the Premier League this season and nine points behind leaders Liverpool, while Spurs are in the Champions League last 16 and EFL Cup semi-finals against Chelsea.

A World Cup winner with France at Russia 2018, Lloris said: "This [winning silverware] is what we work for.

"We know we are in the Premier League and there are a lot of contenders, big teams, big players, and that is why we are excited to be here.

"We are in the most competitive country, so we keep working with the same mentality and do our best.

"We have shown in the past that Tottenham is very competitive and we are reducing the gap with the best."

Following their shock 3-1 loss at home to Wolves, Tottenham will face Cardiff City on Tuesday.

Manchester United Need To Entertain Fans

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has reinterated that Manchester United have to entertain their fans as he showered praises on the team following their third successive victory.

Another entertaining game at Old Trafford, where Solskjaer's in-form United outclassed Bournemouth 4-1 on Sunday.

Paul Pogba scored twice and Marcus Rashford also starred as Solskjaer secured a third straight consecutive win since occupying Jose Mourinho seat in a caretaker position until the end of the season.

The Red devils sit sixth in the standings and have have gannered 12 goals and conceded three since club favourite Solskjaer returned to Manchester from Molde to fill the void left by Mourinho.

Speaking to reporters afterwards, the 45-year-old Norwegian who has brought attacking football back to the Theatre of Dreams said:
"You know, it's quite a few years since I was here but this is how it was.

"I've just gone about the job as I thought or as I experienced it when I was here as a player and as a young coach.

"We want to go attacking. We have been at home two games now and the crowd, we have to entertain them. We've got good players. I love working with good players. I love working with good people. They are good people the players. They want to learn, they want to improve.

"I just want to do my bit for the months I am here."

United, who are within three points of fifth-placed Arsenal, travel to Newcastle United on Wednesday.

Carl Ikeme Calls It Quit

Wolves and Nigeria goalkeeper Carl Ikeme has announced his retirement from football.

The 32-year-old was diagnosed with leukemia in July 2017 but confirmed last month he is in remission.

Following advice from medical experts, Ikeme has now decided to end his playing career.

Ikeme joined Wolves in 2000 as a 14-year-old and made 274 domestic career appearances in all competitions, 200 of which came for the Molineux club.

"Thank you for the support over the years," Ikeme wrote on Twitter.

"My last day as a footballer. But one I am happy and grateful for!!!

"Thanks to everyone to do with Wolves and everyone in football I have met."

Speaking to the club's official website, he went on to say: "I spoke with the doctor and he suggested I should retire, because of the toll the treatment has taken on my body. He thinks it's what is best for me and I can't really risk trying to come back, my health is the priority.

"I want to be here for my children, family and friends. In the grand scheme of things with my life in danger, it's the minimum price I have to pay to spend the rest of my time with my family."

Wolves later tweeted a video of famous goalkeepers paying tribute to Ikeme, including David Seaman, Petr Cech, Joe Hart, Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Iker Casillas.

Portugal international Rui Patricio is expected to be the club's number one next season, having joined the club from Sporting CP last month.

Alex Iwobi Close To New Arsenal Contract - Unai Emery

Alex Iwobi, the Nigerian International is close to agreeing a new contract with Arsenal, head coach Unai Emery has confirmed.

Iwobi, whose contract runs to 2020, made 26 appearances in the Premier League last season.

And the Nigeria international will soon renew his contract to commit his future to Arsenal, Emery told reporters ahead of an International Champions Cup meeting with former club Paris Saint-Germain.

Iwobi played no part in the 3-1 penalty shoot-out defeat to Atletico Madrid, having only just returned from a break following his exertions for Nigeria at the World Cup.

"I have the information – he's near," Emery said. "First, I want to work with every player, and they are coming.

"Mesut [Ozil], Iwobi, [Mohamed] Elneny are starting to work with us, the first week is very good. My information is he is going to sign and continue with us."

Emery's squad has been boosted by five new arrivals, with Lucas Torreira, Stephan Lichtsteiner, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Bernd Leno and Matteo Guendouzi joining since last season.

The Gunners have been linked with further signings ahead of August's deadline, but Emery is content with the group at his disposal.

"I believe in these players," Emery added. "Now, I am very happy with the players. On Monday, other players come with us after the World Cup.

"If there is a possibility to sign a player, it isn't very important now, but while the window is open, we can."

Pope Injury Looks Serious – Sean Dyche

Sean Dyche said he was "really disappointed" to have lost goalkeeper Nick Pope to injury in Burnley's 1-1 Europa League draw against Aberdeen, admitting the problem looks serious.

Pope was withdrawn after just 14 minutes at Pittodrie, receiving a knock to his shoulder and forcing Dyche to send on Anders Lindegaard in his place.

Lindegaard was on the field for just five minutes before Gary Mackay-Steven gave Aberdeen the lead from the penalty spot, but Sam Vokes rescued Burnley with a goal 10 minutes from time to level the tie at 1-1 going into the second leg.

Dyche gave a negative assessment of Pope's injury, saying: "We are waiting to find out more news.

"Nick has gone to hospital with an injury to his shoulder and it certainly looks more serious than not serious at this stage, so we are really disappointed in that.

"It was a bit of a needless challenge when Nick looked like he was just going to catch it, and then [after the ball lands] I think it's the second challenge.

"When he responds to stop the ball going in I think the lad has caught his arm and knocked it back, so we'll just have to wait and see."

The news is a particular blow to Burnley given Tom Heaton is yet to return to action following the dislocated shoulder he suffered last September.

They host Aberdeen at Turf Moor next Thursday and begin their Premier League campaign against Southampton on August 12.

MO Salah Can Build On Record Breaking Season - James Milner

James Milner insists Mohamed Salah is not a one-season wonder, with the Liverpool veteran confident his star team-mate can enjoy another record-breaking campaign.

Liverpool forward Salah took Anfield by storm last season, scoring 44 goals in all competitions and 32 in the Premier League following his arrival from Roma.

Salah – who suffered a shoulder injury in Liverpool's Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid – walked away with the Premier League's Golden Boot and Player of the Year among other individual honours.

After enjoying a goalscoring return in Liverpool's 2-1 victory over Manchester City at the International Champions Cup on Wednesday, Milner believes the Egyptian sensation can build on his 2017-18 exploits.

"The best players in the world aren't known because they just did it in one season, they do it over and over again. He is more than capable of doing that," Milner said.

"I think obviously there is pressure when you've had one good year to deliver again. I think he's a top player, he's shown that and he's going to keep improving.

"We need to keep improving as a side with him as well and make sure that all the pressure is not on his shoulders to deliver goals and get us out of tough situations.

"It's down to all of us to help him be the best player he can and do that as part of a team."

Salah's performances alerted some of Europe's giants, with Champions League holders Madrid linked to the 26-year-old.

However, Salah signed a new five-year contract earlier in July to pledge his future to Liverpool.

"I was never worried, personally," Milner said. "There's always going to be stories when players do well. You saw how well he played last season, improving, and he seems happy so I don't see any reason why he'd want to go.

"That's what happens when you have good players. That's a positive thing for us that when there's speculation about your players it means that they are playing well and performing, and he obviously has."

No Concrete Offers For Gonzalo Higuain – Marotta

"Nothing concrete" from Chelsea and AC Milan regarding Gonzalo Higuain, Guissepe Marotta said, though the Juventus chief executive admitted the striker could be sold following the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ginzalo Higuain has been heavily linked with a reunion with former Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri at Premier League side Chelsea, while the Argentina international's name has emerged as a possible makeweight in a deal for AC Milan defender Leonardo Bonucci.

Marotta revealed the Serie A champions are weighing up their options after Ronaldo's high-profile arrival from Real Madrid left Juve inundated with forwards.

"I won't deny that with the addition of Cristiano Ronaldo we've got a quality attacking department that's a bit crowded," Marotta Sky Italia.

"We'll evaluate things with Higuain, but nothing concrete has arrived from Chelsea and Milan."

Higuain arrived from Italian rivals Napoli for €90million in 2016 and the 30-year-old has helped Juve to back-to-back Serie A and Coppa Italia titles.

I Have Never Been Out Of Shape – Luke Shaw

Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw said he has never been out of shape as he likened his build to former captain Wayne Rooney, while the Englishman has the backing of Jose Mourinho heading into a make-or-break season.

Shaw has struggled to establish himself under the United manager Jose Mourinho since the Portuguese replaced Louis van Gaal in 2016, the former Southampton full-back limited to just eight Premier League starts last season.

Perceived weight issues and a poor diet have emerged as possible reasons behind Shaw's failure to win over Mourinho at Old Trafford, with make-shift full-back Ashley Young preferred in the starting XI.

However, the 23-year-old – who is in the final year of his deal – defended his physique and insisted he is ready to win a new contract following a gruelling personal pre-season training routine in Dubai.

"People think because of the way I'm naturally built I'm bigger than I am," Shaw said. "People can say I'm fat but I know my own body. Of course I always look big because I'm bigger built. You could say a Wayne Rooney type of body.

"But of course I worked hard and not just for them [the critics], I wanted to for myself, get in the best shape and that wasn't my best shape. It was a good shape to start the season off, the preseason, but now I'm working harder than ever and first game of the season I want to look 10 times better than I did in that picture.

"I'm working towards that and with the games and training we're doing here. Obviously we've got a new fitness coach and he's working us all hard and that's what I need."

Shaw, who does not want to sign a contract right now as he fights to prove his worth, added: "I guess you've just got to take it [criticism] because there is always going to be negative criticism and positive but I think both of them can make you stronger. And I think I've been unlucky because I've had a few ups and downs with different managers but I would say I've never been out of shape I've just, I don't know, sometimes people don't think I'm fitter than I am but that's all in the past.

"And, honestly, I feel really good and I'm raring to go. The minutes are only going to help me become fitter. That's what I need: minutes and hard work in training."

Mourinho has been critical of Shaw during his tenure at Old Trafford, but the latter insisted he has the backing of his boss heading into a defining 2018-19 season.

"I spoke with the manager about a week after the holidays. I was in Dubai and he texted me and we had a really good chat, it made me feel really confident about the upcoming season and that's why I worked really hard. I want to prove to him as well that I can be here, as well in this team," Shaw said.

Asked if he doubted his future after he was substituted at half-time of United's FA Cup clash against Brighton and Hove Albion last season, Shaw replied: "Not doubts, but there has been emotion. I was very upset but he only does stuff like that because he knows what I can do.

"We've had this conversation. It was literally like two days after. I hadn't spoken to him since. I was very upset. We were training and he spoke with me afterwards and he said: 'It's frustrating to see you like that when I know you can do this.' It's all positive and it's down to me to prove it to him. He said that he knows I can be the best, but he sometimes feels frustrated that I'm not doing that. He knows what I can do. That was one of the texts he sent me in the offseason. 'I know what you can do - you can be the best but you've just got to work on a couple of things.' That's why it pushes me on more.

"He says these things because he knows I can do it. He knows I can be a top player. He knows I can play for Manchester United. It's horrible at times because people only see those things he says [in public]. That's fine because I'm a grown man and I can take stuff like that. I'm used to it. But the stuff inside the training ground, no one sees apart from me. It still gives me confidence."

Moussa Sissoko Dismisses Tottenham Critics

Moussa Sissoko is unconcerned by criticism from Tottenham supporters and has set his sights on a repeat of last season's success.

Sissoko became Tottenham's record signing when he joined for £31.5million from Newcastle United in August 2016 but he fell out of favour with boss Mauricio Pochettino in his first season at the club.

Reports surfaced linking the former Toulouse player with a move away but Sissoko went on to have a much-improved season in his second campaign for Spurs, making 33 Premier League appearances and scoring one goal.

Sissoko accepts he had a difficult start to life at Tottenham but is not worried about the response from some supporters, who booed the 28-year-old during a draw with Southampton last term.

"I came late, I didn't have pre-season and it was a new challenge for me. But last year I played a lot of games and I did well - like the team. This year is going to be the same.

"I will try to play more and I will try to do better and better. I'm happy with everyone here. The staff are always happy with me so I'll try to keep going."

Despite finding his feet under Pochettino, Sissoko missed out on a place in the France squad for the World Cup.

Didier Deschamps opted to leave the midfielder behind and his side went on to lift the trophy without Sissoko, who remains positive about his chances of adding to 53 Les Bleus caps.

"This is life sometimes," he said. "I wanted to be part of this team but the manager decided to leave me out. This is football.

"I was very happy for them. They deserve it. Now I'm looking forward and we will see what will happen.

"My ambition is the same as always: to try to be better and better, to try to improve, to try to help the team to finish higher up the league, try to go far in the Champions League. Try to perform."

Neymar Jnr Will Bounce Back From World Cup Dissmal Says Thomas Tuchel

Neymar Jnr is a champion who will bounce back from Brazil's disappointing World Cup, according to new PSG coach Thomas Tuchel.

After missing the last two months of the Ligue 1 season with a fractured foot, Neymar returned for Russia 2018 but could not inspire Tite's side to glory.

Neymar scored twice at the World Cup but drew a blank in the quarter-final as five-time winners Brazil suffered a surprise 2-1 defeat at the hands of Belgium.

The forward was subsequently the biggest name left off the shortlist for FIFA's Best awards despite being the most expensive player in football history.

Neymar described Brazil's World Cup exit as the "saddest moment of my career" but Tuchel thinks PSG's star man will recover quickly from that setback.

"Everything impacts everything. I don't think he needed this to be extra motivated," Tuchel told reporters on Friday.

"Of course, the whole Brazilian team expected more. Of course, it affects your approach to the players. Everybody in the squad and the club we want to help them feel very good soon so that they can approach their next goals and not worry about what happened at the World Cup.

"He is a big player. He knows how to handle victories and he knows how to handle losses. In sport, you have challenges to bounce back. He will bounce back. He is a champion."

Neymar is yet to return to PSG duty and will not be available for their next pre-season game, an International Champions Cup clash against former head coach Unai Emery's new club Arsenal in Singapore on Saturday.

"Players will return on a day to day basis. There is a possibility to explain why different approaches for different players when it comes to returning," Tuchel said.

"Every player has his own history, some are experienced, some played the whole season, some played the whole World Cup, some didn't not play for the whole season, some were injured and some were not injured. There is not one day for every player to arrive.

"We have the solution to manage every player and it's very complicated for us. There is a lot of travelling and have to be very smart and manage the player through the first weeks. For us, the season starts very well. We take care of everybody individually. Everybody is happy and eager to come back.

"We believe everybody needs a certain time for rejuvenation after the demands of the season especially players who played several league games and World Cup without pause. Playing at that kind of level, we need to let the player rest."

Hector Bellerin Rejects 'Crazy' Transfer Links

Hector Bellerin has attempted to call time on "crazy" rumours linking him with a move away from the Emirates as he prepares for Unai Emery's first season in charge.

Bellerin, 23, joined the Gunners in 2011 as a teenager having come through Barcelona's famed La Masia academy.

After a loan spell at Watford he broke into the Arsene Wenger's first team in 2014, making 20 Premier League appearances as a 19-year-old.

He has persistently been linked with a return to Barca in subsequent years, and the arrival of Stephan Lichtsteiner earlier in the transfer window has led to further speculation involving Juventus and Manchester United.

However, speaking to reporters in Singapore at the launch of Arsenal's third kit on Friday, the Spain international looked to end the transfer talk.

"It is crazy that people ask me these questions all the time," Bellerin said.

"A few years ago I signed a very long-term contract. I have never said that I have wanted to be anywhere else.

"I am very happy in London. I am very happy at this club.

"The club have made me who I am and gave me the chance to be the footballer I am today. So I don't want to be anywhere else."

Emery took charge of his second game this pre-season as the Gunners lost on penalties to Atletico Madrid in the International Champions Cup on Thursday.

And Bellerin recognised the importance of giving the new head coach time to impose his philosophy.

"At all the teams that he's been at, it's all about being very competitive and really tight at the back," said the defender.

"The important thing at the start is to allow everyone to get in sync with the new coaches and staff. If we do that, everything is going to work and we can challenge for very big things in the future."

Miralem Pjanic Cool On Links With Barcelona And Chelsea

Juventus midfielder Miralem Pjanic has distanced himself from reports suggesting he could be the next big signing for Barcelona or Chelsea, insisting he wants to continue his impressive progress in Turin.

While Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola ruled out a move for the Bosnia-Herzegovina international, he continues to attract attention from the Premier League and LaLiga.

Pjanic has been an integral part of Massimiliano Allegri's midfield since his arrival from Roma for €32million in 2016, scoring 10 goals in 61 Serie A appearances as he helped Juventus to consecutive league titles.

His good form, coupled with the €100m addition of Cristiano Ronaldo to Allegri's ranks, fuelled speculation over a move to Camp Nou or Stamford Bridge, but the 28-year-old remains focused on Juve.

"I listen to a lot of things that are not true," Pjanic told ESPN. "I'm cool. I'm preparing my new season. That's what's the most important.

"What I did the last two seasons for Juventus was really great, and I am happy what I'm doing here."

Pjanic expressed his excitement about lining up alongside Ronaldo, highlighting the Portugal forward's impeccable track record at Real Madrid and Manchester United as he looked forward to seeing him in black and white.

"We are happy that he's there," said Pjanic.

"I think Juve made a big signing, and the team are happy, he's happy, so I think he will do what he did also in the past, what he did at Man United and Real Madrid.

"He won a lot of titles. He did big and great things, and I think he will continue like that.

"He's a great player, and I think he can help his new club a lot. I think he will give a lot to Juventus."

Arsene Wenger is My Idol – Thomas Tuchel

Paris Saint-Germain head coach Thomas Tuchel has named former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger as his "idol and role model" but insisted he did not want to succeed the Frenchman at Emirates Stadium.

Tuchel was strongly linked with a move to Arsenal before Wenger announced in April that he would leave at the end of last season, but the former Borussia Dortmund boss had already decided to join PSG by the time the vacancy in North London arose.

The German coach denied any knowledge of plans to take him to Arsenal but expressed his admiration for the legacy Wenger left at the club.

"I made my decision before Wenger made his decision," Tuchel told reporters ahead of PSG's clash with Arsenal in the International Champions Cup.

"My biggest respect for him. He built the club famously for their style of football.

"He is an idol and role model for every coach and for me especially.

"I never got in touch and I made the decision for Paris before. I don’t know if I was ever meant to be the successor. So [there was] no question."

Tuchel said he was keen to speak to new Arsenal manager Unai Emery about his time at the Parc des Princes, where he won the Ligue 1 title, two Coupe de France trophies, two Coupe de la Ligue trophies in his two seasons at the club.

Tuchel's only managerial honour to date is the DFB-Pokal, which he won with Dortmund in 2016-17, and he would relish the opportunity to discuss tactics with Emery.

"I would like to talk to him," said Tuchel. "I never did that with any of my previous jobs [speak with the previous manager].

"Unai is one of the most successful coaches in Europe. He has won lot of titles last year.

"He sent me a warm message. I was very thankful and it shows his character and the competitor that he is.

"I would love to talk about football with him in detail."

Russia Extends Cherchesov Stay After World Cup Success

Head coach Russia Stanislav Cherchesov has been rewarded with a contract extension for masterminding an impressive run to the World Cup quarter-finals.

The agreement means the 54-year-old will remain at the helm until Euro 2020 with the Russian Football Union retaining the option of additional two-year extension.

Having entered as the worst-ranked team, the host nation defied expectations to reach the World Cup knockout rounds with comprehensive group stage wins over Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

They then stunned 2010 champions Spain in a tense penalty shootout in the last 16, before losing in the same manner to eventual finalists Croatia.

Cherchesov was congratulated by Russian president Vladimir Putin and is now looking forward to building on the breakthrough showing.

"I am glad that we will continue to work with the Russian team," he said.

"In terms of team results the bar is raised high enough. I would like to continue further in the same spirit.

"We understand the full measure of our responsibility, we will do our work with dignity."

Cherchesov's accomplishments led to his inclusion on an 11-man shortlist for the Best FIFA Men's Coach award for 2018.

A former international goalkeeper, he managed the likes of Spartak Moscow and Legia Warsaw before taking his country's top job in August 2016.

McDonald Extends Fulham Contract

Fulham's encouraging preparation for their return to Premier League has continued with a contract renewal for midfielder Kevin McDonald.

The Scottish international has inked a new two-year deal that takes him through to the end of the 2019-20 season, with an option to extend for a further year.

He was signed from Wolves two years ago, the 29-year-old McDonald has accrued 90 league appearances for the London club, scoring thrice as they won the Championship play-offs last term.

His commitment caps a positive week for Fulham following the arrivals of goalkeeper Fabri and Germany forward Andre Schurrle.

"Obviously I'm delighted," McDonald told the club's official website. "I feel settled here, it's a great place to play, it's got everything needed for a Premier League club, and thankfully that's what we are.

"Hopefully we can kick on this season, it's been a great couple of years and - having extended my contract - I couldn’t be happier."

McDonald's maiden Scotland cap came in a 1-0 friendly loss to Costa Rica in March.

'Ronaldo Already Signed For Juventus,' According to Former Juventus Director

Former Juventus director general Luciano Moggi believes Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo “already signed and had his medical in Munich.”

The rumours of a €100m swoop for the Ballon d’Or winner just keep getting stronger and current Juve director Beppe Marotta did nothing to calm them with his response of “no comment.”

Yesterday Moggi doubted the stories, but today he seems to have changed his tune.

He spoke on 7Gold television about the subject, questioning whether it was necessary to spend that much on a 33-year-old player.

However, Moggi then took to Twitter this evening and wrote: “In my view, he has already signed and had the medical in Munich.”

Mbappe, Messi, Raul, Buffon, Pele And The 21 Greatest Teenage Superstars in History

France forward Mbappe having become the first teenager since Pele to net twice in a World Cup game has stolen the show.

Here we look back at other prodigious talents

George Best

George Best had already won a First Division title with Manchester United but the winger only became a true superstar at the age of 19 after a stunning performance against Benfica in the European Cup in 1966 that earned him the nickname 'The fifth Beatle'.

Fondly remembered as one of the greatest players the game has ever seen – despite walking away from top-flight football at 27 – it is impossible not to wonder about what might have been had alcohol not consumed the Northern Irishman's life.

"I was born with a great gift," he later mused, "and sometimes with that comes a destructive streak. Just as I wanted to outdo everyone when I played, I had to outdo everyone when we were out on the town."

Gianluigi Buffon

Gianluigi Buffon achieved instant fame across the footballing world in 1995 by producing a string of sensational saves to keep the mighty AC Milan at bay on his Parma debut, aged 17.

Over two decades on, the goalkeeping icon is still going strong and, despite having 40 in January, the Juventus captain is now seriously considering postponing his retirement for another year.

That is hardly unsurprising of course, since he once revealed in his ode to the game, "I was 12 when I turned my back on my goal. And I will keep doing it as long as my legs, my head and my heart will allow."

Johan Cruyff

Johan Cruyff is quite simply the most influential figure in football history. Nobody has ever changed the game so radically both as a player and a coach. Cruyff understood the game like no other, and from such a young age too.

He was just 17 when he broke into the Ajax team and yet, as legendary coach Vic Buckingham explained, "He showed us how to play. He was so mature. He was such a skinny little kid but he had immense stamina and he could do everything... God's gift to mankind in a football sense. That was Johan. And such a nice kid too."

Duncan Edwards

Despite the fact that he was just 21 when he died in the Munich Air Disaster in 1958, Duncan Edwards had already established himself as one of the most remarkable talents the English game had ever seen.

A defensive midfielder who was also excellent going forward, he became the youngest player in First Division history when making his Manchester United debut at 16 years and 185 days old.

Sadly, the football world would never discover just how great Edwards was going to be but former Red Devils boss Tommy Docherty claimed: "George Best was something special, as was Pelé and Maradona but, in my mind, Duncan was much better in terms of all-round ability and skill."

Eusebio

Benfica pulled off a masterstroke in signing the 18-year-old Eusebio, who had been starring for one of Sporting Lisbon's feeder clubs. Indeed, inside two years, the legendary 'Black Panther' had fired the Eagles to victory over Real Madrid in the final of the European Cup.

He underlined his awesome goalscoring prowess in helping Portugal reach the last four of the World Cup in 1966 but he proved himself an even more impressive sportsman by making a point of congratulating Manchester United goalkeeper Alex Stepney for a fine save in the European Cup final at Wembley two years later.

When he passed in 2014, Red Devils legend Bobby Charlton said, "I feel proud to have been both his opponent and his friend."

Paulo Futre

Paulo Futre made his professional debut with Sporting at just 17 but sensationally quit the club a year later due to a pay dispute and signed for rivals Porto.

The left winger, who drew early comparisons with Diego Maradona, won two league titles with the Dragons before turning in a man of the match-winning performance against Bayern Munich in the 1987 European Cup final at the tender age of 21.

He may never have hit such heights again due to injury but he remains a Portuguese footballing icon.

Patrick Kluivert

Patrick Kluivert achieved instantaneous superstar status, aged 18, by netting the winning goal for Ajax in their 1995 European Cup final clash with reigning champions AC Milan.

The Dutch striker subsequently signed for the Rossoneri and flopped at San Siro. However, he enjoyed a far more successful spell at Barcelona, with whom he won a Liga title in 1999.

Michael Laudrup

Andres Iniesta was once asked to name the best player of all time. Without a moment's hesitation, the Barcelona midfielder replied, "Michael Laudrup." The thinking man's footballer, the Dane saw passes that nobody else could.

He was always ahead of the game and, after making a name for himself with Brondby, the teenager earned a big-money move to Juventus in 1983 before starring for Denmark at the following summer's European Championship in France, during which he turned 20.

The forward never quite settled in Serie A but he proved his undoubted genius in Spain, becoming a key member of the Barcelona 'Dream Team' that won four successive Primera Division titles - and the European Cup - before moving to Real Madrid, where he promptly made it five Liga titles in a row.

Paolo Maldini

“Paolo was very young, so I tried to give him some advice," Franco Baresi explained. "But he needed very little; he was already a great player.”

Indeed, the legendary defender Paolo Maldini made his AC Milan debut in 1985 at just 16 years of age. By the time of Euro '88, the Italian left-back was not only a starter for his country, but also one quarter of arguably the finest back four ever assembled at club level.

Silverware eluded him with the Azzurri but he walked away from the game as a five-time European Cup winner and a shoo-in for any all-time XI.

Kylian Mbappe

Florian Thauvin admitted that even he and his France team-mates were taken aback by Kylian Mbappe's performance in the 4-3 last-16 win over Argentina, "At some points, I was wondering: 'Is he riding a scooter on the pitch?!'"

Mbappe was that fast, that good. He scored twice and won a penalty as Les Bleus stormed into the quarter-finals in Russia. After becoming the first teenager since Pele to net twice in a World Cup game, Mbappe was compared to Diego Maradona by Claudio Caniggia, while Jorge Valdano said he'll "define football for the next decade".

As for Mbappe himself, he remained humble as ever. "It's all flattering but let's put things in perspective: Pele was in a different category." True, but one wonders if we're about to see another very special teenager inspire his country to World Cup glory...

Diego Maradona

Diego Maradona didn't join his beloved Boca Juniors until he was 21 but, by that stage, the iconic No.10 had already earned a reputation as a once-in-a-lifetime talent, having made his Argentinos Juniors debut at just 15 and lit up the 1979 FIFA World Youth Championship.

“He was only a little kid, but he made such an impression in training, playing like one of the kids far bigger than him," Argentinos coach Franciso Cornejo explained. "He was from another planet. He was different.”

He wasn't wrong. Maradona led Argentina to victory at the 1986 World Cup in scintillating fashion before transforming unfashionable Napoli into Serie A champions to cement his status as a true legend of the game.

Stanley Matthews

Clubs were queuing up to sign Stanley Matthews after a stunning showing for England Schoolboys as a youngster. The winger eventually joined Stoke at the age of 15 and made his professional debut two years later, just over a month after his 17th birthday.

Remarkably, Matthews' career would last a mammoth 33 years, with the 'Wizard of Dribble' finally hanging up his boots at the grand old age of 50. "I grew up in an era when he was a god to those of us who aspired to play the game," legendary manager Brian Clough explained.

"He was a true gentleman and we shall never see his like again."

Lionel Messi

When the 17-year-old Lionel Messi scored his first Barcelona goal on May 1, 2005, against Albacete, few could have predicted that it would be the first of quite so many.

However, it quickly became evident that the Catalans had one of the most gifted players in history on their hands. By 21, the flea-sized Argentine had lifted his first Ballon d'Or and is now considered by many as the greatest of all time after collecting four more, as well as becoming Barca's record goalscorer.

As Javier Mascherano once said, "The rest of us are controlled by football; Leo controls the game."

Michael Owen

Like so many others, Champions League winner Karl-Heinz Riedle had never heard of Michael Owen when he joined Liverpool in 1997. The German was, thus, left dumbstruck by the striker's pace and poise.

"It's unbelievable when you see him play to realise that he's only 17," he said. "He's a great player already and in one or two years he will become a very great player." Riedle wasn't wrong.

Owen was still only 18 when he top-scored for Liverpool in the 1997-98 Premier League before becoming a global star with a sensational strike against Argentina in the second round of that summer's World Cup in France.

Owen went on to win the Ballon d'Or in 2001 and although his later years were blighted by injuries, he had already left his mark on the game.

Pele

Arguably the greatest player of all time, Pele was a virtual unknown outside of his native Brazil before the 1958 World Cup began but a superstar by the end of it.

The then 17-year-old attacker, who had started the tournament on the bench, netted the winner against Wales in the quarters, a hat-trick against France in the semis and then one of the most famous goals in history against Sweden in the final.

'The King' would win two more World Cups – and rack up over 1,000 top-flight goals – before his glittering career with the Selecao, Santos and the New York Cosmos finally drew to a close.

His legacy lives on, though. As the artist Andy Warhol said, "Pele was one of the few who contradicted my theory: instead of 15 minutes of fame, he will have 15 centuries."

Raul

"Look over there," Atletico Madrid president Jesus Gil enthused, pointing at a skinny 14-year-old kid clad in red and white. "My captain, Raul. Remember that name – he's going to be a phenomenon." And he was. Just not at Atletico.

When Gil decided to close all but two of the Rojiblancos' youth teams, numerous promising talents suddenly found themselves without a club, chief among them, Raul Gonzalez Blanco.

The prodigiously gifted striker was promptly snapped up by Atleti's city rivals Real at the age of 15, broke into the senior squad at 17 and had become the darling of the Santiago Bernabeu before he had even turned 20.

Gianni Rivera

Gianni Rivera is considered 'The Golden Boy' of Italian football - and it's easy to understand why. The slender attacking midfielder was just 15 when he was given his first professional start by hometown club Alessandria.

Then, after making a record-breaking move to AC Milan just over a year later, he became an Italian icon because of his silky skills and good looks. "He's an elegant young player with a remarkable touch," the legendary Giuseppe Meazza enthused after watching Rivera in action for the first time.

Although always doubted by some as too weak or too slow, Rivera was a wonderful passer of the ball and he would end his career having won two European Cups with Milan, a European Championship with Italy and the Ballon d'Or, in 1969.

Cristiano Ronaldo

Famously signed by Manchester United after leaving their defenders with twisted blood during a friendly in Lisbon, Cristiano Ronaldo bewitched the Old Trafford crowd with his tricks and flicks from the moment he made his debut as an 18-year-old.

Even George Best gushed, "There have been a few players described as 'the new George Best' over the years, but this is the first time it's been a compliment to me!"

The Portuguese has since developed into arguably the most effective goalscoring machine the game has ever seen, winning four Champions Leagues – one with United and three with Real Madrid – and five Ballons d'Or.

Wayne Rooney

Wayne Rooney had already netted in the Premier League for hometown club Everton but a star was truly born the moment he curled home a stunning, last-minute winner against reigning champions Arsenal just days before his 17th birthday in October 2002.

The Merseysider took Euro 2004 by storm, scoring four times, only for injury to intervene. Sven-Goran Eriksson nonetheless claimed, “I don’t remember anyone making such an impact on a tournament since Pele in the 1958 World Cup in Sweden."

Sadly, for a variety of reasons, Rooney would never dominate another major international tournament in the same way. However, he still became Manchester United's all-time record goalscorer before making an emotional return to Goodison Park last year.

Ronaldo

The striker was considered such a phenomenal talent in his native Brazil that he was taken to the 1994 World Cup despite having played only 14 league games in his debut season at Cruzeiro.

Ronaldo didn't feature in the United States but he would go on to become the tournament's record goalscorer in firing the Selecao to victory in 2002.

Miroslav Klose has since bettered that tally but, for many, Ronaldo remains the finest No.9 of all time. Indeed, even Zlatan Ibrahimovic considered him on a whole other level: "For me, he was the greatest. There was nobody like him."

Francesco Totti

The Roma legend made his debut for his hometown club at just 16 and would go on to break record after record.

The 2006 World Cup winner became Serie A's youngest captain at 22, leading the Giallorossi to an historic Scudetto in 2001, and ended his career at the age of 40 as the second-highest goalscorer in Serie A history.

Lionel Messi considers him "a phenomenon", while former team-mate John Arne Riise perhaps best summed up Totti's standing by pronouncing him, "The God of Rome!"

Ronaldo Insulted By Real Madrid After €100m Price Tag (Marca)

Marca claim Cristiano Ronaldo decided to leave Real Madrid after they put an “insulting” €100m price-tag on him and Juventus can now take advantage.

There are now so many sources reporting the idea of a transfer to Turin that it is difficult to argue otherwise, although that doesn’t necessarily mean it will go through.

According to tomorrow’s edition of Spanish paper Marca, Ronaldo made up his mind to quit Real Madrid in January.

That is when the famous ‘elease clause’ – in fact a gentlemen’s agreement rather than a legal document – was introduced.

It stated that the Merengues would let CR7 go for €100m as long as it wasn’t to a direct rival, for example Barcelona or Paris Saint-Germain.

At the time, they were presumably thinking of a club in China or the United States and not another European side.

As it happened just months after PSG activated the €222m release clause in his Barcelona contract, Ronaldo felt “insulted” to be worth just €100m.

With this in mind, he decided then and there to walk away come the end of the season, as he no longer felt appreciated at the Bernabeu.

This would explain his comments straight after the Champions League Final: “It has been wonderful playing for Real Madrid.”

Now Juventus can take full advantage of that same €100m agreement that is pushing Ronaldo away from Madrid.

The other turning point was the overhead kick stunner he scored at the Juventus Stadium in the Champions League, as he received a standing ovation from the home fans.

He felt genuinely appreciated and admired their sportsmanship, claims Marca.

Uruguay Youngster Lucas Torreira Ready For New Life At Emirates

Lucas Torreira will be prepared for life in the Premier League when his "scary" transfer to Arsenal is completed, according to the player's father.

Arsenal look set to sign Torreira, who has started in Uruguay's last two World Cup games, from Sampdoria once the midfielder's campaign in Russia is over.

The 22-year-old would become Unai Emery's fourth signing of the transfer window.

There are doubts over Torreira's ability to adapt to a more physical league than Serie A, but his father Ricardo claims his son has a programme ready to help him settle in England.

"There will be people that will accompany him," he told Teledoce.

"He won't be alone. It's a big change [going to England] and we don't want to think about it yet because we're scared.

"The truth is it's tough to manage the language, adapt to the [London] society and customs and at the same time not lose ours.

"But there's a whole programme getting readied for Lucas."

Belgium Not Relenting Over Brazil's Individual Talent

Vincent Kompany insists Belgium are losing no sleep over Brazil's qualities ahead of the World Cup quarter-final clash on Friday.

While Brazil overcame Mexico in comfortable fashion, Roberto Martinez's side needed Nacer Chadli's 94th-minute strike to progress past Japan.

In the aftermath of Belgium's dramatic victory on Monday, Martinez claimed the Red Devils had nothing to fear heading into the clash with Brazil, adding that it would suit his side not to be considered favourites.

And Kompany, who made his first start of the tournament against Japan after recovering from injury, echoed his manager's thoughts.

"Individually, Brazil are the strongest team in this World Cup," he told reporters.

"That is a compliment but it doesn't affect our chances against them. None of us are going to sleep at night thinking we have already lost to Brazil.

"Defensively they are solid, they win all their defensive duels and in attack, they are not scared to take people on one on one. They always have a key to unlock any situation.

"We are going to look them in the eye. But if we make this a match of individuals, then we'll lose.

"If it becomes a match of individual performances we've got no chance. If we play as a team, if we fight for each other, we can do it and that's what matters to me."

Under Martinez, Belgium have looked to develop a possession-based style, with the former Everton boss often preferring a 3-4-3 system to incorporate the Red Devils' array of attacking talent.

And Kompany affirmed that, despite some shaky defensive displays - as exhibited against Japan - Belgium's players have full belief in the Spaniard's approach.

"We have developed an attractive style of football, we have scored a lot of goals and showed our good side," said Kompany.

"We're constantly improving. We just have to step up to another level against Brazil. At least I hope we can."

Sweden Will Maintain Their Strengths - Granqvist

Andreas Granqvist has vowed that Sweden will not alter the way they played heading into their World Cup quarter-final with England.

Janne Andersson's side have had less possession than their opponents in three out of their four matches at the World Cup so far, relying on their strong defensive structure to keep teams at bay.

That tactic has worked well, and if not for Toni Kroos' sublime free-kick in the last minute of the Group F clash with Germany, Sweden would have an undefeated record in Russia.

And Granqvist, who has scored twice from the penalty spot, claims Sweden have no plans to change how they set up when it comes to facing England in Samara on Saturday.

"Normally the other teams have better players on paper. We let them have the ball in the places we want them to have the ball," Sweden's captain, who will return to Helsingborgs IF at the end of his World Cup campaign, told reporters.

"If you look at the games we have played, of course the opponents have more ball possession, but we have created more chances.

"This is how we play, this is what we need to do. This is our strength and we need to show our quality against other strong teams.

"This is the way for us to have success and we're going to continue this way."

Jose Mourinho Surprised By England Antrics Against Colombia

Portuguese Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho was full of surprise by England's antics against Colombia, criticising defender Harry Maguire for diving.

England progressed from the last-16 clash at the World Cup, winning 4-3 on penalties after the 1-1 draw in Moscow Tuesday.

But there were eight yellow cards shown during a tempestuous encounter and it was the approach of Gareth Southgate's men that surprised Mourinho.

The Portuguese tactician singled out Maguire, accusing the Leicester City defender of diving to try to win a penalty.

"The negative thing for me was the fact… I think there is exaggeration on theatre by the players," he told Russia Today.

"I was surprised to see central defenders like Harry Maguire, normally he is a very honest guy, diving in the attacking box asking the referee for VAR.

"Every team has lots of diving, lots of pretending, lots of putting pressure on the referee.

"The game loses quality… and for me that was the negative point."

Colombia received six of the eight yellow cards for the game, including one for Wilmar Barrios for an apparent headbutt on Jordan Henderson.

Calum Chambers Extends Arsenal Contract

Arsenal manager Unai Emery revealed Calum Chambers would be part of his plans in 2018-19 after the defender signed a new long-term contract at the club.

Chambers joined Arsenal in 2014 and has since made 83 appearances, as well as having a successful loan spell at Middlesbrough in 2016-17 and picking up three England caps.

He made 24 appearances last season as Arsenal finished sixth in the Premier League and reached the Europa League semi-finals.

Emery told the club's official website: "I'm delighted Calum has extended his stay with us.

"He played an important role last season and will be part of my plans this season."

I Want To Be Closer To My Family - Thibaut Coutouis

Thibaut Courtois will wait till after World Cup to decide his future, but had admitted he wanted to spend more time with his family in Madrid.

Courtois, who is contracted at Stamford Bridge until 2019, is heavily linked with a move to European champions Real Madrid.

The former Atletico shot-stopper said being closer to his family in Madrid is crucial, although any decisions over his future will not be made until Belgium's World Cup campaign ends.

"I love living in London. Madrid and London are great," Courtois said, via Sport, after his nation's last-16 win over Japan on Monday.

"The only thing is that my children live in Madrid. I would like them to be close.

"That doesn't mean I'm going to come back, but for me they are very important and I'm going to do something to see them more."

Chelsea signed Courtois from Genk in 2011, but sent the goalkeeper out on loan to Atletico for three seasons.

While he wants to sort out his future, the 26-year-old said the World Cup was his focus.

"I'm not going to talk about that now. I just said that I'll see everything after the World Cup," Courtois said.

"The most important thing is my children and I'll decide what's best for me in everything."

Divock Origi To Prove Worth at Liverpool After Wolfsburg Loan Spell

On loan Liverpool star Divock Origi believes he has returned to Liverpool as a more experience and mature player following his loan spell i Germany at Wolfsburg.

The striker was part of Belgium’s squad at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, scoring the winner for his country in the 1-0 triumph over Russia in the group stage, but failed to make the cut for this year’s tournament following an indifferent campaign in Germany.

Origi netted six Bundesliga goals and also scored in the two-legged relegation play-off victory over Holstein Kiel, helping Wolfsburg maintain their top-flight status.

While failing to find his best form during the 2017-18 season, Origi insists his temporary stint overseas has made him a more complete frontman as he aims to prove his worth at Anfield.

"It was a learning season for me," Origi told Liverpool’s official website. "It was a bit of a change of scenario. I learned a lot mentally and grew a lot. I think I've come back more mature.

"As a team, we had a difficult season, but we fought until the end and managed to stay in the league.

"I am very excited for the new season. I just have to keep my focus on enjoying myself on the pitch and giving everything.

"The next few weeks will show. The feet do the talking on the pitch, so we will see how it goes. I am positive."

Liverpool's campaign ended in frustration, as their Champions League hopes were snuffed out by Real Madrid at the final hurdle, but Origi is confident Jurgen Klopp's side will continue to make progress in 2018-19.

"Every year since I have been here, we have progressed so much. Even now, I have come back and can see we've progressed even more," the 23-year-old added.

"It was a great season with a difficult end, but it will make us stronger. We've always come back from setbacks, so I am very excited to see what is going to happen in this new season."
