Morata Must Deal With Pressure

Alvaro Morata must embrace the weight of expectation at Chelsea as the misfiring forward continues to struggle, according to Gianfranco Zola.

Morata has only managed five goals in the Premier League this season and seven in all competitions amid links with Sevilla and AC Milan.

Chelsea spent around £60million to price Morata from Real Madrid in 2017 but the Spain international has struggled for goals and confidence after a promising start to life at Stamford Bridge.

With doubts over Morata's future in London, assistant coach Zola said the 26-year-old has to deal with the pressure at Chelsea.

"It should be a motivational thing," said Zola. "You are at Chelsea, you are not playing for Southampton or Brighton with all due respect to those clubs.

"People expect a lot from the number nine at Chelsea. They expect a lot of goals and good performances. This is normal, he has to get used to it.

"If he goes to another big club it'll be the same - there is no way you can avoid your responsibilities.

"It's part of your job and if you can handle that then the better you're going to be."

Zola added: "Technically Morata - and this is the reason we invested a lot in him this year - we thought he was the perfect number nine for us.

"Maurizio [Sarri] has always said that. Technically without doubt he is one of the best in this position.

"I think he has to improve a little bit tactically because nowadays with the type of football, football is so organised you need to get better tactically, your ability is not enough.

"In my opinion he needs to improve on this. He's been working on that, he has a good attitude. He feels that he doesn't score enough and he feels a lot of responsibilities for that.

"But he has to learn to put everything behind because these are only burdens that you take on the pitch and they don't help you to perform better."

No Concrete Offers For Gonzalo Higuain – Marotta

"Nothing concrete" from Chelsea and AC Milan regarding Gonzalo Higuain, Guissepe Marotta said, though the Juventus chief executive admitted the striker could be sold following the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ginzalo Higuain has been heavily linked with a reunion with former Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri at Premier League side Chelsea, while the Argentina international's name has emerged as a possible makeweight in a deal for AC Milan defender Leonardo Bonucci.

Marotta revealed the Serie A champions are weighing up their options after Ronaldo's high-profile arrival from Real Madrid left Juve inundated with forwards.

"I won't deny that with the addition of Cristiano Ronaldo we've got a quality attacking department that's a bit crowded," Marotta Sky Italia.

"We'll evaluate things with Higuain, but nothing concrete has arrived from Chelsea and Milan."

Higuain arrived from Italian rivals Napoli for €90million in 2016 and the 30-year-old has helped Juve to back-to-back Serie A and Coppa Italia titles.

I Want To Be Closer To My Family - Thibaut Coutouis

Thibaut Courtois will wait till after World Cup to decide his future, but had admitted he wanted to spend more time with his family in Madrid.

Courtois, who is contracted at Stamford Bridge until 2019, is heavily linked with a move to European champions Real Madrid.

The former Atletico shot-stopper said being closer to his family in Madrid is crucial, although any decisions over his future will not be made until Belgium's World Cup campaign ends.

"I love living in London. Madrid and London are great," Courtois said, via Sport, after his nation's last-16 win over Japan on Monday.

"The only thing is that my children live in Madrid. I would like them to be close.

"That doesn't mean I'm going to come back, but for me they are very important and I'm going to do something to see them more."

Chelsea signed Courtois from Genk in 2011, but sent the goalkeeper out on loan to Atletico for three seasons.

While he wants to sort out his future, the 26-year-old said the World Cup was his focus.

"I'm not going to talk about that now. I just said that I'll see everything after the World Cup," Courtois said.

"The most important thing is my children and I'll decide what's best for me in everything."

Olivier Giroud admits to having left Arsenal with “unfinished business”

The France international remains determined to get his hands on the Premier League title having crossed London without a winners' medal to his name

Olivier Giroud admits to having left Arsenal with “unfinished business” and is determined to right his Premier League wrongs with Chelsea.

The France international brought a five-and-a-half-year stint with the Gunners to a close during the January transfer window.

A deadline day switch saw him cross London, with Chelsea acquiring a proven performer who had plundered more than 100 goals for their local rivals.

Giroud was, however, to leave Emirates Stadium with just three FA Cup winners’ medals to show for his efforts and he is eager to land English football’s biggest prize after trading red for blue.

"I don't know if we can really call it a regret but I have a little feeling of unfinished business because I would really have liked to have won the Premier League with Arsenal," the 31-year-old told SFR Sport.

"You don't just wipe away five-and-a-half years like that. I have said it often enough - it was my ultimate goal.

"Having said that, it's not over, I'm still in the Premier League, now I'm at Chelsea. For this year, I think it's over for the title, but next year, we'll come to it with great ambitions.

"I still want to win it before I end my career."

Giroud penned an 18-month contract with Chelsea after completing an £18 million move.

He has already opened his account for new employers, in an FA Cup clash with Hull City, but still has plenty to prove if he is to see regular game time and chase down his ultimate goals.

A 2-1 defeat to Manchester United in their latest outing has dropped the Blues out of the Premier League’s top four, while a 1-1 draw with Barcelona in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 encounter means Antonio Conte’s side face the unenviable challenge of having to score at Camp Nou in the return date on March 14.

It's Not Easy to Compete With Manchester City And United in The Transfer Market - Conte

The Blues have been linked with less fashionable names, while the Manchester clubs are targeting superstars in the January window

Chelsea don't find it easy to compete with the likes of Manchester City and United for top players in the transfer market, Antonio Conte hinted Friday.

The Blues broke their transfer record this season by bringing in Alvaro Morata for £58 million, a move that could rise to £70m with the add-on involved in the deal, but they lag behind the two Manchester sides in terms of net spending during the transfer windows.

Chelsea made a number of high-profile sales to fund spending and are now being linked with the likes of Stoke City's Peter Crouch and West Ham's Andy Carroll. But Conte admits that it might be tricky for the Premier League champions to keep up with some clubs on transfers.

"This question is one for the club," Conte said during a press conference at Cobham Training Centre. "For sure, now there are strong, big realities and it's not simple to fight them. But I don't know. I'm not in condition to follow up with that.

"In this moment, about Ross Barkley, I think the club took a good opportunity to buy an important player, an important English player, and not spend a lot of money. Ross' evaluation is more than £15m."

Chelsea go into the Brighton game on Saturday with a 15-point gap between them and Man City, who sit in first place in the Premier League table.

The Blues have slipped to fourth after playing to a 0-0 draw with Leicester last weekend, while Liverpool beat Man City. Conte thinks that the Premier League is the toughest league in world football, and understands how difficult it is to win the trophy.

“In every sport you have to fight if you want to reach great achievements," Conte said. "I think in England, it's very difficult to win the title, more than in other country. Because you start the season with six top teams trying to win the title.

"This is the only country where you can find this type of situation. At the same time, it's very difficult to fight and find a place in the top four. Last season, Manchester United and Arsenal stayed out.

"Two seasons ago, Liverpool were out and Chelsea finished 10th. They were out. But we must be ready, we must be ready to fight for a place in the top four. It won't be easy because every team wants to reach this target.

"This target is very prestigious for every team because this competition, [along with] the Champions League, is the biggest in the world for clubs. We must be optimistic. There are four months to play. Good targets.

"We are in the semi-final of the Carabao Cup with the possibility of reaching the final, the fourth round of the FA Cup, the Champions League, and we're fighting for a Champions League place in the league. We must be optimistic and continue to work. Our work must give us the right optimism.”

“At this moment, Manchester City are one of those in the Champions League places. I don't know if they'll win the (Premier League) or not, but they are 12 points from the second and 20 from Arsenal."

Chelsea don't go into the game against Brighton in great shape having played 120 minutes in the FA Cup third-round replay on Wednesday against Norwich.

Conte saw Morata and Pedro both get sent off for two yellow cards and they will miss the game, while the manager confirmed Gary Cahill and Cesc Fabregas are out with injuries. Conte admits he's unhappy that Pedro dived but says that he knows he has made a mistake.

“I think, during the game, the player can be tired, a bit tired, but Pedro's reaction was to stand up quickly," Conte said. "I think the player understood, at that moment, the mistake and wanted to stand up and admit it was a mistake, 'I was a bit tired'.

"But, sometimes we can make mistakes. The most important thing is to try and recognise the mistake and try and avoid repeating them next time. If you see, he didn't ask for a penalty.”

Emerson Palmieri On Verge To Join Chelsea for €25m

Emerson Palmieri is on the verge of joining Chelsea for €25m, including bonuses, but getting Edin Dzeko from Roma too will be trickier.

According to multiple sources in Italy, the deal is essentially done for left-back Emerson Palmieri.

He has just recovered from a torn anterior cruciate ligament injury he sustained in May 2017, on the final day of last season, and is eager to complete the transfer.

It’s believed Roma will pocket €20m plus bonuses, that will take it up to around €25m.

As for Dzeko, there are mixed reports on the Bosnian striker’s situation.

Sky Sport Italia claim the former Manchester City man has accepted the idea of a move to Stamford Bridge, whereas Sportitalia and La Gazzetta dello Sport see him as still tentative over the transfer.

Roma want at least €20m plus bonuses for the centre-forward who turns 32 in March.

His first season in Serie A was a massive disappointment, but he was Capocannoniere in his second campaign.

So far this term, Dzeko has scored 12 goals in 26 competitive matches, including two Champions League strikes against Chelsea.

Roma finished above Chelsea in their Champions League group, yet appear to be selling two of their most impressive players to Antonio Conte’s side.

The Giallorossi already have a replacement for Dzeko, as summer signing Patrik Schick has struggled when used in the same line-up as the Bosnian, preferring the same centre-forward role.

Injury Blow For Chelsea as Captain Gary Cahill a Doubt to Face Arsenal in EFL Cup

Chelsea could be without Gary Cahill as they face Arsenal in the second leg of their EFL Cup semi-final on Wednesday.

The defender limped off with a muscular injury against Leicester City six days ago and has already been ruled out of the Saturday lunchtime clash with Brighton this weekend.

While Cahill is close to recovering, it seems more likely he will return in the fourth-round FA Cup tie against Newcastle on Sunday week.

The Chelsea skipper is one of four key first-team players Antonio Conte will be without for the trip to the Amex Stadium.

Cesc Fabregas is struggling with a hamstring injury picked up during training ahead of the FA Cup third-round reply win over Norwich and remains a doubt to face his former club next week.

Pedro and Alvaro Morata are both serving one-game bans after picking up two yellow cards during the shootout victory.

The former Barcelona man was cautioned during normal time for diving before a reckless challenge saw him dismissed three minutes before the end of extra time.

Morata, replacing Michy Batshuayi on 81 minutes, was shown two yellow cards in quick succession after first being booked for diving and then remonstrating with the referee for his marching orders

Chelsea After Emerson And Dzeko

Emerson, a Brazil-born full-back hoping to play for Italy, would provide back-up and competition for Marcos Alonso, who has been one of Chelsea’s top players at wing-back this season.

"There’s nothing certain yet, we are in a phase of discussion and evaluation," Emerson’s agent, Fernando Garcia of Elenko Sports, told Calciomercato.

"Chelsea are a concrete possibility, absolutely. Now the two clubs are talking, we’ll see if they reach a positive conclusion.

"Obviously, Emerson would love to play in the Premier League and it’d be a dream to work with Conte, as he is among the best coaches in the world."

Dzeko, who spent five seasons in England with Manchester City, scored 29 goals from 37 Serie A appearances last season and has nine from 19 so far this campaign.

The Blues are searching for a striker as Alvaro Morata’s goals have dried up and manager Antonio Conte seems not to trust Michy Batshuayi to deputise.

Players' Happiness Not Important - Conte

The Italian tactician instead emphasises honesty and transparency when dealing with disgruntled individuals, and prioritises the cultivation of a winning culture.

"Every manager I had in my career when I was a player, the first thing they taught me was that it’s not important to make players happy," he said, via the club's official website.

"The most important things are to win, to be honest and loyalty. If you are this way, nobody can say anything to you.

"Maybe in the first moment someone can be angry but after they reflect they realise you are honest and every choice is for the team. Not because you have more sympathy for one player. I learnt that from [Marcello] Lippi, [Giovanni] Trapattoni, [Arrigo] Sacchi, many coaches I had in my past."

Chelsea are in action against Norwich City in an FA Cup third-round replay at Carrow Road on Wednesday night.

Am Unaware of Caroll Interest From Chelsea

West Ham manager David Moyes says he has heard nothing about Chelsea’s reported interest in a January purchase of striker Andy Carroll.

The Blues are struggling for goals at the moment, as Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Leicester City was their third goalless draw in a row, the first time that has happened in the club’s history.

Alvaro Morata’s goals have dried up in recent weeks and, with manager Antonio Conte seemingly unwilling to rely on Michy Batshuayi, reports suggest the Blues are looking to bring in the 29-year-old centre-forward.

"They have not made contact with me, so if they have made contact with someone else I don't know about it," Moyes said.

"At the moment Andy Carroll is one of my squad, I want to add to the squad, not lose players.

"I know nothing about it. There have been a lot of rumours regarding a loan but as far as I know it has never officially come from Chelsea. I am not keen to lose any players, I am more keen to add to the squad.

"At the moment Andy has an ankle injury so we are hoping that will settle quickly and he will be back training shortly."

Ampadu is a Great Talent - Conte

Conte revealed that he will select the 17-year-old at centre-back for the FA Cup third-round replay against Norwich City at Carrow Road on Wednesday, after he impressed in the League Cup.

Ampadu played the full 90 minutes against Everton and Bournemouth respectively in the fourth round and quarter-finals of the League Cup. The Blues won both games 2-1, and Conte is eager to give the youngster another opportunity.

"He will start as one of the three central defenders," said Conte, according to the club's official website.

"He deserves to play. He’s showing that in every game I make this decision, like against Everton and Bournemouth. He’s shown me he is ready to play with the right concentration and be ready physically and tactically to play at this level.

"It’s unusual for a player who is only 17 but that shows age is not important if I give you the chance to play and you repay me with a great performance. We are talking about a really great prospect for Chelsea for the present and future."

Batshuayi to End His Chelsea Nightmare?

Prior to his £33 million transfer to Chelsea, Michy Batshuayi was one of the hottest prospects in European football.

He would go on to make just a single Premier League start in his debut season in the English top tier and would eventually be offered to a host of clubs over the summer transfer window by Antonio Conte, though vowed to fight for his place. Despite his restricted playing time, Batshuayi scored five goals in 239 minutes - an average of a goal every 48 minutes - and refused to read into the claims that he was not cut out for a starring role at Chelsea.

Marseille were ready to take their former forward back on loan, while at least 10 Premier League clubs offered a temporary home, but Batshuayi again refused to give into the pressure.

His confidence is admirable but isn't shared by his manager, who has worked extensively with the striker to develop his understanding of what is required.

Batshuayi has made just two Premier League starts this season, with another five coming in cup competitions. And, to the striker's credit, he has scored seven goals this term in 20 bit-part appearances. However, his overall contribution is significantly short of what Conte requires from his leading frontman and the Italian's preference to push Eden Hazard into a makeshift 'false nine' role over selecting Batshuayi is telling. As was Conte's push to sign Fernando Llorente in the summer as an understudy to Diego Costa.

"He has to show me that he's better than Morata, or than Hazard. It's very simple,” Conte said earlier in the season. “But don't forget that Michy this season is playing more than last season. Last season he didn't play. He didn't play and I think this season, if you consider his injury for a month, he had his chance."

And Batshuayi was offered another chance to make a mark ahead of Chelsea's Carabao Cup tie with Norwich on January 6, with Alvaro Morata dropping to the bench and Hazard missing out through injury. Batshuayi offered little, however, and was eventually replaced by Morata in the second with the home support mocking the Belgium international as he left the pitch.

With an eye on the Russia World Cup this summer, Batshuayi is increasingly in need of regular playing time to restore his reputation as one of the most promising forward's in Europe.

Batshuayi is a player who hit double figures in goals in the four seasons prior to joining Chelsea, with his final campaign at Marseille ending with 23 in all competitions. His season and a half with Chelsea, then, can be fairly marked as a stain on an otherwise promising career to date. Still 24, Batshuayi now has a decision to make if he is to retain his status ahead of Roberto Martinez selecting his Belgium side for the World Cup.

"I was a player, I understand if someone is worried about the World Cup," Conte said previously when asked about his plans for fringe players in the winter transfer window. "I understand [if they want to leave], but at the same time it’s very important to keep players very happy to stay here, to work with us and I think this must be our priority."

So what next for Batshuayi?

Goal understands that Sevilla hold a strong interest in a six-month loan deal, while a move to West Ham has also been suggested. Chelsea are unwilling to let him leave without a replacement, however, regardless of how a move away would benefit all parties.

Sevilla's proposition is an attractive one, with European football in hand and currently sitting fifth in the Liga rankings. Vincenzo Montella's side recognise that Chelsea need a replacement before sanctioning a loan move, however, and are therefore also looking at both Stevan Jovetic of Monaco, who spent part of last season at the club, and Everton attacker Sandro Ramírez. The decision is up to Conte, though, and he risks scuppering Batshuayi's development by not pulling the trigger.

“Michy is a young player," Conte said. "He has to work very hard to improve himself. But he's doing this. I'm happy with his behaviour and his commitment. But I have to make the best decision for the team."

With Conte's mind made up and having had little change from persevering with his goal of being Chelsea's leading striker, now is the time for Batshuayi to cut his losses and look to make a short-term impact elsewhere.

Conte Hails Chelsea Character And Effort

The Blues played out a 0-0 draw with the Toffees at Goodison Park on Saturday, seeing them fall 16 points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City.

"When you see a team use this big effort, and we must be disappointed for the result because we drew a game when usually you win this type of game, but I am not worried because the players played very well. It was a good performance and I liked the attitude and the effort of my players," Conte was quoted as saying on the club's official website.

"You know very well that this league is not simple. You have to fight to win the league, you have to fight for the Champions League, you have to fight for the Europa League places. We have to do our best and then at the end we will see where we are."

"My task is to bring an important motivation in every game and to this point, my players they always gave me great responses. Sometimes it can happen you drop points. We dropped points against Everton, a good team, it is not simple to play away against them but we dropped points in a fair way."

Eden Hazard In Advanced Negotiations' With Real Madrid

Eden Hazard is in advanced negotiations with Los Blancos and the move could materialize for the La Liga giants following the 2018 World Cup.

Reports from Spain claims that the Blues' star man is No 1 target for Madrid manager, Zinedine Zidane this summer which could pave way for Marco Asensio's exit.

Diario Gol write that Asensio has issued the club an ultimatum, informing them that if Hazard joins he will end his association with the Spanish side.

Asensio is supremely talented and would surely have a number of top clubs lining up for his signature, but it is widely acknowledged that Hazard's arrival would see him warming a place on the Real Madrid bench.

Zidane is a huge fan of the Belgian and would be delighted to bring him to Spain as Real Madrid look to keep pace at the top of La Liga.

The Spanish report notes that negotiations between Real Madrid and Hazard are at advanced stage and everything points to the player arriving after the World Cup.

The 26-year-old, who has netted eight times for Chelsea this season, is heading to Russia with his country in the summer.

Asensio is also likely to be there with Spain, but whether he heads back to Madrid after the tournament as yet remains to be seen.

Diario Gol write that he favours a move to Manchester City if he is to leave the Bernabeu, with Pep Guardiola keen on him.

Asensio is said to be monitoring how the situation pans out with Hazard before he commits to any move away from the club.

I'm Unaware Of David Luiz Exit

David Luiz has slipped down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge after a disagreement with Conte in October following a 3-0 defeat to Roma in the UEFA Champions League.

With Luiz having made just one appearance since the incident, he has been linked with a surprise move to London rivals Arsenal during the January transfer window.

Despite being unavailable for the visit of Bournemouth in the EFL Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday due to a knee injury, the 30-year-old defender was still a topic of discussion in Conte's pre-match press conference.

"I don't read [the speculation] and I [therefore] solve the problem," said the Italian when asked about the talk surrounding Luiz's future.

"I don't read so I don't have information about this topic. As a person I am very realistic, I like to tell the truth."

Conte added that the South American will be sidelined for the festive fixtures, saying: "Yeah, he's injured. Maybe three weeks."

Conte Shut Up About Blues Exit

The Italian has already given up hopes of catching runaway league leaders Manchester City, but claims that he’s in London for the long haul despite reportedly wanting to return to Italy.

"Everyday there is speculation about my future," Conte told reporters. "It's not right because I think I deserve a bit of respect for what I did last season, for what I am doing this season.

"To read every week: 'Next season the club contacts this coach or this coach' - for me this is not a problem, but it can create problems with the players because the players believe we could [drift] apart.

"I have another year on my contract, so in this moment my focus is total, to improve my players, to try to improve the team, to try to improve the club.

"If you understand football, there is a moment you must have great patience, to know that someone is working very well.

"I think last season we did a fantastic job but this job is continuing this season. We are trying to change the average age of our team.

"I think for a club like Chelsea it is very important to start to do this, if you want to create a new base and face the future with confidence."

The Blues have a midweek fixture coming up on Wednesday when they will host Bournemouth in the League Cup.

Chelsea Will Keep Fighting Till The End

Chelsea have hit a purple patch in recent weeks, clinching 24 points out of 30 points and losing only 3 points.

Manchester City have claimed 30 points out of 30 points and are now 14 points ahead of the defending champions, who are third on the log behind Manchester United.

Despite the substantial lead, Azpilicueta has urged his team-mates to keep pushing and keep the pressure on the Citizens.

"It's true that what Man City are doing is unbelievable, they are breaking records," the Spaniard told the club's official website.

"In the last 10 games we've won eight, drawn one and lost one, and we are further away than we were before those 10 games, so it's difficult to analyse in that way. We have to look at ourselves and keep pushing.

"Until there is no possibility to do it we have to believe, in the same way that even when were top of the table by 10 points (last season) you felt if the other teams kept winning they would keep pushing you to win your games.

"We won the league with two games to go and we were 10 points clear of Tottenham with maybe nine or 10 games left, so we know this season we are in the other position. We just have to keep going and trying to put pressure on them."

How Mourinho uses PSG interest to pressure Manchester United

After Manchester United's dismal defeat at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, stories about Jose Mourinho would emerge once again, after having previously been linked with a switch to Paris Saint-Germain it seems he is using this interest to pressure his current employers.

Mourinho's current Old Trafford contract only runs until June 2019 and there is a sense that the former Real Madrid coach would like an improved deal as he continues his job of placing United back at the forefront of English football.

According to a report in The Sun, Jorge Mendes has held informal talks with the French giants about the 54-year-old taking over at the Parc des Princes at some point in the future.

The aforementioned report suggests that these talks are all part of a coherent strategy from the Mendes camp to put pressure on Ed Woodward and Co. with regards to handing the Portuguese coach a salary increase.

All is not well for the tactician at Carrington, he is witnessing Pep Guardiola's Manchester City play some of the finest football England has ever seen and is coming in for criticism from sections of his own fanbase for his perceived negative tactics in big matches.

Failing to sign Ivan Perisic in the summer is known to have left Mourinho disappointed. Looking across at Guardiola being given over 100 million euros to spend on three full-backs, he is not being allowed to spend 45m euros on a player he sees as pivotal to the season's success.

Just how important this kyboshed deal is to the coach is not known fully, yet it is clear he will want reinforcements in January.

Another facet of the campaign to pressure the Old Trafford club is to try and get the funding for January signings. It may well be that the 2017/18 championship is Manchester City's to lose, but it can't hurt Mourinho to begin his preparations for the next campaign early.

Generally, it is hard to suggest the former Porto coach has done anything other than a fine job with the Red Devils, in his debut season he took a team that was on its knees to glory in both the League Cup and Europa League.

In his second season he currently sits second in the Premier League and is all-but qualified for the Champions League knockout phase after four matches; it is worth remembering United haven't been in that position since David Moyes was coach in 2013/14.

It is understandable that he would want an increase in pay, although very few individuals have taken on Manchester United over the years and remained in place.
