Klopp: Guardiola Is The World's Best Manager

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp insists his Manchester City counterpart Pep Guardiola is the "best manager in the world" and says he has no problem finishing second to the Spaniard.

He said: "I'm lucky that I can say that my teams were at least close to his teams because I've said a lot of times, I think he is the best manager in the world.

"What he is doing with his team is incredible. The way they play, I really like to watch.

"Pep and I, we are different, so our teams mirror our character. He is much finer than I am as a person so he is the gentleman and I look how I look on the touchline. Probably a bit more intense maybe.

"There's no rivalry left or right of football. We respect each other lots but on the pitch we want to beat them, that's normal.

"At the end of the season in most of the seasons he has still won the league. In Germany always, and in England so far as well. That's how it is but I can easily live with that because I have no problem with being second even when I want to be first."

Liverpool currently sit 10 points clear at the top of the Premier League, 14 ahead of City, meaning Klopp is well set to finally triumph over Guardiola.

With a league title looking increasingly likely and alongside last season's Champions League success, Liverpool's current team has the potential to become an era-defining outfit, yet Klopp is unsure they will go on to dominate for years.

He said: "I don't think that something like that is possible still, this kind of domination in periods.

"It's not too long ago that we had the Barcelona of Pep Guardiola dominating pretty much everything.

"Man City dominating the Premier League for the last years since Pep is here at least. They are incredible and they have to fight each week.

"We don't think about ourselves like this. We don't think that somebody has to name us on the same level with any Ajax team, any United teams or other teams in the world.

"We just want to play the best football we can play and we want to have the best time together we can have."

Minamino Welcomes Salah & Mane Competition

New signing Takumi Minamino is ready to embrace the challenge of competing with “world-class” Mohammed Salah and Sadio Mane for minutes at Liverpool, with a £7.25 million ($10m) deal having been pushed through.

He told Liverpool’s official website of working with Salah, Mane and Co: "Not only them, there are many world-class players here and of course it’s not an easy challenge.

“It’s not easy to overtake those players to get a position but having the mentality of challenging those players is important to keep the team’s high level. That sort of mentality is important for the team and I certainly will play with that mentality.

“I’m looking forward to working with Jurgen Klopp, I think one of my strengths will be to be able to communicate with him in German – because I speak a bit of German – and I’m really looking forward to it.

“I think he is one of the best managers in the world and I always want to improve myself, so it would be great if I could make a contribution to the growth of the team and myself.”

He added: “I’m an offensive player so I always want to assist and score goals.

“I would like to maintain that quality and the number of situations that directly lead to more goals and assists. I think that is my strength, so I would like to show that strength of mine in this team.”

Van Dijk Lauds Trio, Moh Salah, Firmino And Mane

Anfield star Virgil van Dijk has heaped praises on "scary" attacking trio Moh Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane as the Reds top the Premier League table.

Salah, Firmino and Mane combined to lead high-flying Liverpool to a 5-1 demolition of Arsenal at Anfield on Saturday.

Firmino scored a hat-trick, while Salah and Mane were also on target as centre-back Van Dijk lauded the deadly trio ahead of Thursday's trip to second-placed Manchester City.

"We were almost perfect. We conceded the goal. That was the only thing," said Van Dijk. "But it was an important win. We have finished 2018 now pretty well, and hopefully we can keep that going.

"Confidence is definitely here, but it can change over a couple of games. We won't get carried away. We need to keep doing what we have been doing. There will be setbacks, as there always is in life, but it's how you react and so far we have been doing pretty well.

"At the beginning of the season, people were saying they [the front three] didn't click. They're fantastic. You see in this game as well and they can be undefendable. It's scary — and I'm happy to see that."

Liverpool hold a seven-point lead as they make the trip to reigning champions City, who ended a run of back-to-back defeats against Southampton on Sunday.

MO Salah Can Build On Record Breaking Season - James Milner

James Milner insists Mohamed Salah is not a one-season wonder, with the Liverpool veteran confident his star team-mate can enjoy another record-breaking campaign.

Liverpool forward Salah took Anfield by storm last season, scoring 44 goals in all competitions and 32 in the Premier League following his arrival from Roma.

Salah – who suffered a shoulder injury in Liverpool's Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid – walked away with the Premier League's Golden Boot and Player of the Year among other individual honours.

After enjoying a goalscoring return in Liverpool's 2-1 victory over Manchester City at the International Champions Cup on Wednesday, Milner believes the Egyptian sensation can build on his 2017-18 exploits.

"The best players in the world aren't known because they just did it in one season, they do it over and over again. He is more than capable of doing that," Milner said.

"I think obviously there is pressure when you've had one good year to deliver again. I think he's a top player, he's shown that and he's going to keep improving.

"We need to keep improving as a side with him as well and make sure that all the pressure is not on his shoulders to deliver goals and get us out of tough situations.

"It's down to all of us to help him be the best player he can and do that as part of a team."

Salah's performances alerted some of Europe's giants, with Champions League holders Madrid linked to the 26-year-old.

However, Salah signed a new five-year contract earlier in July to pledge his future to Liverpool.

"I was never worried, personally," Milner said. "There's always going to be stories when players do well. You saw how well he played last season, improving, and he seems happy so I don't see any reason why he'd want to go.

"That's what happens when you have good players. That's a positive thing for us that when there's speculation about your players it means that they are playing well and performing, and he obviously has."

Divock Origi To Prove Worth at Liverpool After Wolfsburg Loan Spell

On loan Liverpool star Divock Origi believes he has returned to Liverpool as a more experience and mature player following his loan spell i Germany at Wolfsburg.

The striker was part of Belgium’s squad at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, scoring the winner for his country in the 1-0 triumph over Russia in the group stage, but failed to make the cut for this year’s tournament following an indifferent campaign in Germany.

Origi netted six Bundesliga goals and also scored in the two-legged relegation play-off victory over Holstein Kiel, helping Wolfsburg maintain their top-flight status.

While failing to find his best form during the 2017-18 season, Origi insists his temporary stint overseas has made him a more complete frontman as he aims to prove his worth at Anfield.

"It was a learning season for me," Origi told Liverpool’s official website. "It was a bit of a change of scenario. I learned a lot mentally and grew a lot. I think I've come back more mature.

"As a team, we had a difficult season, but we fought until the end and managed to stay in the league.

"I am very excited for the new season. I just have to keep my focus on enjoying myself on the pitch and giving everything.

"The next few weeks will show. The feet do the talking on the pitch, so we will see how it goes. I am positive."

Liverpool's campaign ended in frustration, as their Champions League hopes were snuffed out by Real Madrid at the final hurdle, but Origi is confident Jurgen Klopp's side will continue to make progress in 2018-19.

"Every year since I have been here, we have progressed so much. Even now, I have come back and can see we've progressed even more," the 23-year-old added.

"It was a great season with a difficult end, but it will make us stronger. We've always come back from setbacks, so I am very excited to see what is going to happen in this new season."

There Is More to Come - Van Dijk

The Dutchman, a £75 million club-record signing from Southampton, has managed four clean sheets in 10 appearances since his January debut.

The Holland international was touted as a cure all for the Anfield club’s much-publicised defensive woes and while Jurgen Klopp will still not be completely happy, it is clear that Van Dijk has made a big difference.

"Obviously you come here with expectations and you want to play as soon as possible and as much as possible this season and be as fit as possible and quick as possible,” said the 26-year old.

"Now I'm getting better and better and the understanding with all of the players is getting much better. I'm just playing my game and trying to help my team.

The confident centre-back added that the improvement has come as he approaches full fitness following injury problems.

"What percent am I now? That's difficult. But I'm completely over the ankle problems (which kept him out for long periods in the last year), definitely.

"It's more than that, it's also just condition-wise and the way Liverpool play you need to be spot on. That's pretty clear right now."

Van Dijk said he will now be fully focussed on upcoming friendlies against England and Portugal before some big games when club competitions start again at the end of the month.

Liverpool face Crystal Palace in the battle for a top-four spot in the Premier League before their Champions League quarter-final against Manchester City - just two days before a trip to Goodison Park for the Merseyside derby.

"You don't think about that when you're heading off with the international team. You're giving everything for your country, and that's what I'm going to do," he said.

"It's a big period for us as a country, we have been in transition, we have a new manager, and it's going to be totally different now and I'm looking forward to meeting up with the guys. We play England as well, so it's going to be good.

"We can prepare for that (the Champions League) when the time comes.

"Everybody knows that anyone we get is going to be very hard. Man City is a very good team, very hard to play against and we need to be 100 percent or even better to beat them over two games."

OFFICIAL: Daniel Sturridge Completes Loan Move From Liverpool to West Brom

OFFICIAL: Daniel Sturridge completes loan move from Liverpool to West Brom for the rest of the season.

Liverpool can confirm Daniel Sturridge has joined West Bromwich Albion on loan until the end of the season.

The striker will spend the remainder of the 2017-18 campaign with the Baggies after finalising the deal today.

Sturridge, who recently marked five years with the Reds, has scored 63 goals in 133 appearances for the club following a transfer from Chelsea in January 2013.

This season so far, the 28-year-old has netted three times in 14 outings for Liverpool.

Inter Make 'Serious' Push for Sturridge as Sevilla Consider Offer for Liverpool Striker

The Serie A side have made a proposal to secure the forward until the end of the season, with their Spanish rivals for his signature playing catch up

Inter are in pole position to recruit Daniel Sturridge on loan this month, but the striker is hoping Sevilla will also present a solid formal offer to Liverpool, Goal understands.

The Liga side are the England international’s first-choice option but have only put in a check over his availability.

Inter, however, have submitted a “serious” proposal to sign the 28-year-old until the end of the season, which includes a substantial loan fee, the full assumption of his salary and a path to making the deal permanent.

Luciano Spalletti's side have made it quite clear in their professional handling of matters that they are resolute in securing Sturridge’s services, which has encouraged the forward.

Sevilla’s interest in Sturridge is further complicated by their pursuit of Michy Batshuayi from Chelsea .

The 24-year-old had seemed certain to switch to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan for the rest of the campaign, but the London club’s difficulty in the transfer market is hampering that move.

Blues boss Antonio Conte wanted to bring in Andy Carroll before letting the Belgium international, who is also on Borussia Dortmund’s radar, leave Stamford Bridge.

But the West Ham target man has suffered an ankle injury, which has left Chelsea scrambling and Sevilla frustrated.

Vincenzo Montella’s side, who have conceded more than they have scored in La Liga this season, are now considering making an official submission to Liverpool for Sturridge’s services.

They have been made aware it would need to match what Inter have put on the table.

Sturridge, who has previously revealed his fascination with Spanish and the intention to increase his vocabulary in the language, was an unused substitute during the 3-3 Champions League draw at Sevilla in November.

He has been handed just five starts for Liverpool this season, and following a muscle issue, as well as illness which he has shaken off, he has not featured in a matchday squad since the 7-0 victory over Spartak Moscow on December 6.

The former Chelsea and Manchester City man is desperate to secure regular minutes in order to make England’s World Cup squad, with West Ham and Southampton also monitoring his situation.

Liverpool were initially unwilling to countenance a loan move for Sturridge, placing a £30 million valuation on the marksman.

However, having only received approaches over a temporary arrangement thus far, the Merseysiders are looking to settle on the best deal for the club and player before the window closes.

Liverpool's Loris Karius Vows to Prove He Could Be No 1 For Years to Come'

Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius has vowed to prove he can be the Reds' No 1 'for years to come'.

Karius appears to have been reinstalled as Jurgen Klopp's main keeper after being selected for Liverpool's 4-3 win over league leaders Manchester City last Sunday.

This season, the German shot-stopper has largely been used in the cup competitions with Belgian Simon Mignolet being favoured for the league games.

However, Mignolet has not played since January 1 and Karius has played back-to-back games against Everton in the FA Cup and against Pep Guardiola's side.

'Now you are back in goal you have to prove yourself and show how good you are to stay No 1 in the long-term, not just for the moment, to prove maybe I'm the long-term No 1 that can be in goal here for Liverpool for years to come,' he told the club's official website.

'But that's far ahead. So, for right now I just want to help the team in the remaining four months of the season to reach our goals and do well.'

'That's what I've been working towards since I was left out.

'I've been using the Champions League to get game time and prove myself. That was very good for me. There were not that many games but it's the highest level you can play on.

'I had a few league games now and then but, of course, now it's going to be different playing every week. It's nice, it's great to hear and I can't wait to be in goal again next week.

'There is always pressure. You can turn it any way you want.

'You can say if you are the challenger that you need to be doing very well every time you come in, or you can't have a bad game as a No 1. That's just our job and the pressure comes with it. I don't really see it as pressure.'

Liverpool travel to bottom side Swansea on Monday night on the back of that emphatic victory over City.

'Straight after the game everyone was very happy and pleased,' he said. 'The next day, we spoke about the game and of course we were all in a good mood.

'We had a day off and now we're back in training. It's not [about] looking back too much, it's [about] preparing for the next one. There are so many important games to come. We only got three points out of it – that was our aim and we're very pleased. But now it's onto the next one.'

Coutinho: Liverpool Did Their Very Best to Hold Me Down

Coutinho penned a five-and-a-half-year contract with Barca on Monday, after the Catalans forked out £146m to prise the Brazilian away from his employers at Merseyside.

The signing brought an end to a transfer saga that saw Liverpool reject a number of bids in August. Coutinho admits the Reds did everything they could to hold on to him, but his dream was always to sign for Barcelona.

"I just want to thank the club for its patience and its effort," said the 25-year-old, according to Sky Sports. "I'm very happy, this is a dream come true for me and I hope to live up to the expectations."

"They understood that it was what I wanted. They did all they could to try to keep me, but in the end they understood that it was my dream, and the dream of my family, to come here.

"I just would like to thank all the fans, all the staff and all the players for the years I lived there.

"For sure, I gave everything I could. Unfortunately we could not win but I lived [in Liverpool] for five years and my family was very happy there. So I just would like to thank them and wish them all the best."

Kent Returns to Reds From Freiburg

Kent, 21, joined the Breisgau-Brasilianer in the off-season after a successful spell at Championship side Barnsley in the 2016/17 season.

Three goals and as many assists in 44 league outings saw the academy graduate develop at a rapid rate technically and physically and head coach Jurgen Klopp was left impressed during their 2017 pre-season tour.

However, the Reds boss has been concerned by his spell in the Bundesliga after featuring only six times at the half-way mark of the campaign.

The England youth international is now expected to join up with the Liverpool first-team to provide back-up for the likes of Mohammed Salah and Sadio Mane.

Reds Mount More Woes On Swansea

Liverpool moved back into the top four as they ran riot against bottom rock table Swansea with a 5-0 victory at Anfield on Boxing Day.

Match Summary

Jurgen Klopp's side were in front as early as the sixth minute with a quality strike from Philippe Coutinho, although they failed to capitalise further on their first-half dominance.

The second half was a different matter, though, as Firmino (brace), Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all got on the scoresheet to seal a comprehensive win.

Full Report

The hosts got off to a perfect start when Coutinho curled a shot into the right corner of the net from 20 yards out in the sixth minute after Firmino won the ball back off Jordan Ayew and fed his compatriot.

Andrew Robertson wasn't far away from doubling their lead five minutes later as he ran onto Mohamed Salah's cutback from the right byline and sliced an effort narrowly wide of the left post from 19 yards out.

Emre Can fired tamely at Lukasz Fabianski from just outside the box after being allowed to advance on goal midway through the first half, and Oxlade-Chamberlain blazed well over the crossbar from 22 yards out on 26 minutes.

The Reds should have put the game to bed before half-time, but Firmino pushed his shot wide of the left post from 22 yards out in the 31st minute, while he missed an even better chance in added time as he dragged an effort inches past the upright from 12 yards out, after Roque Mesa had given the ball straight to Salah, who played the Brazilian in on goal.

Ayew looked to get the Swans back into the contest after the restart, but his ambitious strike from long range was easily gathered by Simon Mignolet in the 49th minute.

Salah went close at the other end moments later as he cut inside from Firmino's pass on the right, although his shot was too close to Fabianski. However, the home fans were celebrating on 52 minutes when Firmino volleyed home at the back post from Coutinho's free-kick on the left.

Salah missed another glorious opportunity on 57 minutes after being picked out by Coutinho's low free-kick, with the Egyptian flashing his shot inches wide of the right post from 12 yards out.

Leroy Fer should have done better when he connected with Wayne Routledge's cross from the right on the hour mark, but he guided the ball well wide of the near post.

It was 3-0 on 65 minutes as Alexander-Arnold arrived to meet a clearance from a cross on the left, with his rising shot from 12 yards out flying into the roof of the net, and Firmino bagged his second goal a minute later from a simple tap-in from six yards out having being teed up by Salah.

Oxlade-Chamberlain completed the rout seven minutes from time with a dinked effort into the left corner of the goal from 14 yards out following good work from the England international to bring the ball under control.

Substitute Dominic Solanke went close on two occasions late on, with Fabianski denying him from close range on 86 minutes before he volleyed wide of the far post two minutes later after connecting with Coutinho's clipped cross.

Mignolet preserved his clean sheet with the final action of the match as he tipped over substitute Tammy Abraham's header in stoppage time.

Top Four Our Realistic Target

Jurgen Klopp has said that Liverpool must improve if they are to finish in the top four qualify for the next season’s Champions League.

The German all but admitted Liverpool's title challenge is over as they currently trail top of the table Manchester City by 20 points.

But he said that there was still plenty for Liverpool to fight for and that there was no room for complacency.

Speaking ahead of their Boxing Day game with bottom-club Swansea at Anfield, Klopp said:

"We have to qualify for the Champions League. We have to finish as high as possible.”

"It looks like we could be second, third or fourth this year, that's a fantastic situation. Not the dream, but a fantastic situation.

"That's what we are working on and for this we have to improve in all departments.

"This year, I don't think that anyone apart from Manchester City and maybe Manchester United are thinking too much about how they can win the league.

"In a very difficult league, performance-wise we are really consistent so far. If we stay consistent and avoid our mistakes, mistakes like in the 3-3 draw with Arsenal, we will win much more games than we lose or draw.

"As it was and so it will be against Swansea, we have to perform first of all and then we have to see how the other team can react."

Klopp also warned his players not to underestimate their opponents despite the Welsh club’s lowly position.

"They are under pressure and that's clear because they fight for the league, 100 percent, and that will not change before Boxing Day," he added.

"But we will be ready and we will perform, if possible, like against Arsenal but avoid the mistakes we made.

"I don't really remember the game from last year, to be honest. I remember that we lost it. But that's not the plan!"

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain Has Massive Potential - Klopp

Alex Oxlade Chamberlain has got what it takes to push the reds through to the top. The England international signed for the Reds from Arsenal on transfer deadline day and has started to find more regular games after a slow start.

Chambo has made 18 appearances for Klopp's side so far this season, contributing one goal and making two assists. The German coach believes he has the ability to be more prolific in the final third if he shows more decisiveness.

"He is on a very good way. I like it, but he has so much potential it's unbelievable, what he still not shows," Klopp told the club's official website.

"It's only just the beginning and I really like it, I really like it. He's like a wonderful package, I can only say.

"Hopefully he stays fit, that's the most important thing. He can be much more decisive in a few moments.

"[He's sometimes a] little bit too much of a midfielder instead of a striker - there are a lot of things he can improve, but I'm really happy about the status quo."

Playing Against Arsenal Will Be Special

Alex Oxlade Chamberlain left the Gunners on transfer deadline day after spending six years in north London.

He had since made 18 Premier League appearances for the Reds, scoring a goal and providing two assists.

Oxlade-Chamberlain is looking forward to paying the Emirates Stadium a visit, but will not let nostalgia blunt his desire to claim three points for the Merseysiders.

"It will be a special occasion for me, full of emotion I'm sure," the England international was quoted as saying by the Mirror.

"We're in good form and we'll be going there full of confidence and looking for three points. I hope we can put together a good performance, fight all the way through the game and come out with the right result."

My Heart Still At Anfield

Coutinho attempted to force through a move without success, though Barca are reportedly set to reignite their interest during the January window.

“I’m playing in one of the biggest leagues in the world,” said Coutinho, who has scored four goals in all competitions for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Oxlade-Chamberlain Is Keen to Inject Into The First-team

Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is keen to secure a regular first-team spot after patiently waiting for his chance.

The summer signing scored on his first Premier League start for the club in Saturday's 4-1 win at West Ham.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has now started back-to-back games for the first time since joining from Arsenal, having been in the team for the Champions League win over Maribor, and wants that run to continue.

'It's never easy coming into a new team with as much quality as we've got here. It takes time to settle in and learn a new formation and style of play,' he told liverpoolfc.com.

'I've had to be patient. I would have liked to have played as much as I can, that's natural.

'The only thing I can do when I get the chance is try to impress and help the team to win, with goals and creating chances.

'I'm going to keep trying to do that and keep pushing for starting places, just as everyone else will. That's the best thing - competition for places.

'The most important thing is that we're winning. I'm happy with the result and obviously it was nice to start as well.'

While Oxlade-Chamberlain is concentrating on nailing down a first-team place, Liverpool's Under-17 World Cup winner with England Rhian Brewster hopes to inspire the next generation of youngsters.

The teenager, who was top scorer at last month's tournament in India, wants to follow in the footsteps of his heroes and be a role model and an inspiration for other youngsters.

'I want to be a legend for young people, like Suarez and Thierry Henry were for me,' he said in a video posted on Facebook.

'I want people to look up to me. I was young once, so I know what it's like to look up to people.'

Naby Keita Going Nowhere Now - Leipzig

RB Leipzig boss Ralph Rangnick has ruled out key midfielder Naby Keita joining Liverpool during the January transfer window, six months earlier than planned.

The Guinea international midfielder signed a deal in August to join Premier League giants Liverpool for the 2018/19 season after the Merseyside club triggered a release clause in his contract.

The deal is reportedly worth 51.9 million euros ($62 million, 45.8 million pounds) and there had been speculation RB Leipzig could let Keita join Liverpool early, during the Bundesliga's winter break in January.

However, Leipzig's director of sport Ralph Hasenhuettl has ruled out Keita leaving before the end of the season, because they need him in their bid to qualify for next season's Champions League.

"Even if we should not reach the knockout stages of Champions League, it would make no sense to allow Naby to join Liverpool earlier," Rangnick, RB's director of sport, told the Leipziger Volkszeitung newspaper.

"We want to qualify internationally (for the Champions League) from the Bundesliga again and we need Naby for that."

Leipzig are currently second in the Bundesliga, four points behind Bayern Munich, and in contention to qualify for the next round of the Champions League.

They are currently third in their group with two games left, needing to make up the two-point deficit on second-placed Porto in their final games away to bottom side Monaco and home against leaders Besiktas.

Keita has had a difficult few weeks after being sent off three times in seven games for club and country.

The 22-year-old hit the headlines for the wrong reasons at the weekend when it emerged he is accused of using a fake Guinean licence to twice try to obtain a German driving permit.

He reportedly faces a fine of 415,000 euros (£366,731, $480,009), based on his salary.

"We, of course, stand by Naby," was all Rangnick would say on the legal issue.
