Who Should Replace The Injured Olivier Giroud

Loic Remy looked set to leave QPR earlier this summer, with Liverpool agreeing a fee with the newly-promoted side.
However, a problem detected in his medical threw the deal into doubt and Liverpool eventually pulled the plug, paving the way for Mario Balotelli to join in a £16 million move instead.

Harry Redknapp has insisted that he is keen to keep the France international, claiming he does not expect him to leave in the final weeks of the transfer window, but Arsenal could reignite their interest in the star, who watched their win over West Brom from the stands at the Emirates towards the end of last season.

Remy held talks with Tottenham following the end of the season but instead chose to hold out for a bid from Arsenal, meaning he would likely jump at the chance to link up with the Gunners should Arsene Wenger make an approach.

Having held make-or-break talks with Louis van Gaal, several reports have suggested that Danny Welbeck has been told that he can leave Manchester United ahead of the transfer deadline.

With Tottenham also taking a keen interest in the striker, Wenger would have to move fast were he to elect to make an approach.

Often deployed out wide by David Moyes, Welbeck scored nine goals and provided two assists in the Premier League last season but, while displaying a versatility which may appeal to Wenger, the strker later expressed a desire to leave due to his preference of playing through the middle.

With Giroud injured and Lukas Podolski reportedly expendable, Welbeck would likely get his wish in north London, though it will undoubtedly be a wrench to leave United – with the boyhood fan having been at Old Trafford since the age of nine.

A long-mooted target, Llorente was identified as a potential loan acquisition in November 2013 ahead of the January transfer window. The Gunners made contact with Juventus over a move but were told that the striker was not for sale, leading them to pursue other targets.

However, Arsene Wenger could yet reignite his interest in the striker, whom he believed would be a marquee addition at the turn of the year.

The striker bagged 16 goals in 2013-14, despite initially struggling to break into the team, but could yet be allowed to leave, with Juventus also pursuing a striker.

The Italian giants are interested in Lukas Podolski and Wenger could yet pursue a swap deal were he to again target Llorente following Giroud’s injury woe.

A far more expensive target than those already mentioned, Edinson Cavani would certainly be a headline-grabbing signing and could form a formidable partnership with fellow big-money acquisition Alexis Sanchez.

A mooted target for Liverpool before their move for Balotelli, Cavani would cost in excess of £40 million but has a superb strike rate.

The Uruguay international scored 25 goals in all competitions last term but was reportedly unhappy at being shunted out wide to accommodate Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

He hinted at an exit earlier this summer - amidst rumours of a possible bid from Manchester United - telling reporters: "I am at Paris, I think I will stay here, but you never know with the transfer window."

With Wenger having already spent a significant portion of his transfer budget such a move would seem unlikely, but Arsenal are in need of a marquee forward and Cavani could guarantee over 20 goals per season as much as anyone else on the market.
